Isn't the idea to win? Or at least be first runner up

Not at all! The object for a house is to be well rounded enough to place in a lot of things. Winning one thing is not nearly as important as doing well in lots of things. I'm sure the girls themselves would have rather won, but just having girls in your house who are in the top 10 most accomplished girls in OK or in the US is pretty amazing.

Placing goes to fourth runner up in a beauty pagent. None of those girls actually placed and the winner wasn't in an OU sorority.

Placing goes to whatever "place" you mention. Finishing in the top 10 or top 20 is placing in that category. So yes, all the girls mentioned placed in the top 10 or 20. Congratulations to them an apologies for the curmudgeon who is from a house who must not have had a girl who did well in one of the pageants.

Obviously the above poster knows nothing about pageants. Those girls competed against 47 contestants at Miss Oklahoma. To place in the top 10 is huge! And for the theta and Gphi who won prelim awards as well is even bigger. It means they scored the highest in those categories. Congrats to all!

Can't believe you just wrote that- if the gphi scored the highest in that category and couldn't do better she must have done poorly in the other stuff. If your theory holds true then it's better not to be in a sorority since an Independent won. Maybe you should think it through a little more before you write. Don't bring theta into it-- their girl actually won a couple years back too

To place top ten at Miss Oklahoma means you scored high in all the categories. I have several friends from high school who have participated in Miss Oklahoma and I know that the girls that win the prelim awards are extremely talented and beautiful. To do that they score higher than the 40 or so other talented, beautiful girls that are also participating. The girls that make the top 10 are truly amazing girls. Not every sorority is represented by a top 10 girl, but the ones that are should be congratulated, not criticized because they didn't win. That's just plain stupid.

To place top ten at Miss Oklahoma means you scored higher than the majority of others girls in all the categories. As a competitor in the system a few years back I'm offended that the poster above is making light of it. It's extremely hard to place much less win a prelim award. Congratulations to the ladies who did and don't listen to anyone who has no clue what they're talking about.

Houses who do well in these pageants wouldn't criticize other houses who also do well. It's the bitter houses that didn't place who would.
