Out state rushing

by:

Hi, I’m an out of state student going to OU in the fall and I don’t have any direct family who has been in sororities, other than a cousin. I’m am planning on getting recs but don’t know if I’ll have one for every house. Do you think this will make it less likely for me to get a bid?

It’s difficult to get a bid to one of the top houses if you’re out of state and don’t have any connections. That doesn’t mean you won’t get a bid anywhere though!

I would get recs for as many as you can, especially if you have an impressive resume. It won’t guarantee you a bid but if you don’t have any connections, a great rec can make the difference between getting an invite to round two or not.

Thank you. What about bids to mid-tier houses? I’m not necessarily concerned with the top 5. Any chance at a bid with a mid house?

Definitely! A lot of girls go into it only wanting top 5. If you’re open to other houses and excited about the chance to get to know them I think you’ll still have a good rush.

Also, if you really love a house/see yourself there/want to be there on Bid Day, TELL them! I was kind of surprised to be cut by a mid house I really liked and the advisor told my mom it was because they knew my sister was in a top house there and they didn’t want to waste a spot on me bc they assumed I’d want to go to my sister’s. Different situation but I think it’s definitely important to make sure they know if you really loved them.

My roommate was from out of state and ended in a top house that she knew no one in! Don’t stress just be yourself

Don't worry about so called top houses. No one really cares except people whose grandparents were here in the 1980s when those things were a consideration
