I do agree with you somewhat. It seems like to get into some of the houses, you need somebody on the inside advocating for you (and advocating hard). It seems rare for a random girl to wander into a "top house" (Kappa for example) and get a bid. The girls who get in seemed to know somebody (or more than one somebody) or came from a top school.
But that's not to say it doesn't ever happen. It just seems more common to know somebody.

Why is it ok for a house to decide they don't want a PNM they haven't gotten to know and cut her without giving her a fair chance, but when a PNM decides she doesn't want to be in a certain house she "has a bad attitude?"
Why is a PNM expected to accept a bid from a house she doesn't want to be in, but a house cannot be forced to take a PNM who ranked them #1 if they decide she's not good enough for them? The hypocrisy is unbelievable.
The TRUTH is that for 90% of PNMs, there's nothing mutual about the selection process until pref night, and even then, the houses have the upper hand.
Recruitment is a numbers game that is heavily skewed in the houses' favor. Are there a few unicorns who go into it without connections and have a good rush? Yes. But most of the top houses are competing for the same 150 girls, and everyone else ends up disappointed.

Unfortunately, it is what it is. I hate to say it that way, but I don’t know any other way explain it. There are always PNMs who know people on the inside, drop dead gorgeous and wealthy, have connections, or have 15K plus followers and sought out by top houses. When PNMs pledge these “top” houses, it only confirms the top house rankings. And then it continues….
But, that doesn’t mean there are other houses that aren't great fits for other PNM’s. Don’t worry about what is considered the “top houses”. The top houses are not that great on the inside. Imagine the prettiest, the wealthiest, the one’s with best connections all put into one house. Yes, you can all imagine…lots of drama, competitiveness, and sometimes lack of substance.
I’m sure there are exceptions. But, this is what happens to the majority of the “top
Houses”. So… “top houses” might not what you want after all.

It is very true. A lot of houses the girls don’t get to pick the pledge classes. Their alums or their nationals do before summer ends. On the chance that you do stand out and don’t know you, they will find a way to get a reference. However, there are so many great houses on campus. Every house makes the Panhellenic stronger in a time where sororities nationwide are being hung out to dry on social media. We are seeing less and less join nationally. Everyone gets hung up on certain houses and doesn’t even give the others a chance. They all essentially run the same as they are ran and monitored by the National Panhellenic society.

It shouldn’t have to do with your connections though. It should be based off your GPA, presence, and overall conversations. My friend was a cheer captain, student body president, 5.0 GPA and did not get the houses she wanted.
