sophomores

by: hey

I was just wondering why "top" houses don't like to take sophomores? I've met tons of gorgeous/super sweet sophomores in lower houses that easily could have fit into top tiers. Whats the deal?

its true. I saw some just the other day at soonerthon, and had some in my walking group. Recruitment is very tough for upperclassmen. Just the way it is.Unless they have a ton of bffs in the house and a great gpa/personality it won't happen.

Sororities aren't like frats each house has a quota which is set after the last round & before that houses are told how many girls they can invite back each night. The stronger houses get to invite less girls back because otherwise more girls would want to go to the top houses and less girls would be attending the lower house parties. It is the system of Panhellenic across the nation. The idea is to keep every sorority strong on every campus. It's not without it's flaws though. A house may have really liked a girl and she may have been their 81st choice but the house was only allowed to take 80 girls. Think of it like a draft system everyone wants to play for a winning team and a winning team may want you but they can only take so many players-- doesn't mean you wouldn't have been a great fit for the team!

that doesn't explain why sophomores specifically are cut.......

no one will tell you that. Its chapter membership secrecy. The "top" houses feel that they deserve the "best" girls for four years. They can do whatever they want and for them, sophomores are a detriment.

I think the message here is that all of our houses have wonderful girls and that the trolls on here who say that there are only a few top houses are really trying to make themselves feel good and are not really telling the truth. We have 11 good houses who recruit different women and the PNMs don't all want to go to just certain houses like one frequent poster on here would have you think. People who choose their friends based on what house they're in sadly are losers.

If top houses weren't required to release large numbers of girls the lower houses wouldn't have enough PNMs at their parties. Houses often want freshmen over sophomores because the freshman have better resumes.

What? The freshmen have better resumes because they have a lot of high school activities as opposed to sophomores who have college experiences and grades on their resumes. <------ Completely idiotic thing to say. All houses (not just top ones) prefer mostly freshmen because they need to bond with their freshmen pledge sisters and because they'll be there for all four years (having a big senior class is desirable). Actually the whole resumes reason the idiot above gave is ridiculous because sophomores have actual college grades that houses can look at as opposed to every freshman's 4.5 weighted high school gpa of photography, pottery, leadership, English, and DECA. Sophomores have been involved in campus activities and have taken actual college classes, so their resumes are way more telling of what they'd be like.

A big reason is because the house can't bill you for all 4 years like they could if you were a freshman, they only get you for 2-3 as an upperclassman. It seems financially backwards to take a good sophomore over a good freshman. I think it's stupid but that's the way it is.
