Houses and politics

by: Sooner

Hello

Can you tell me which houses lean more toward the progressive side? And which lean more toward the conservative side?

This is important to me and I cannot really tell from their instas.

Now I know I’m not alone. ♥️

There needs to be some push back because it’s gotten pretty bad. Hopefully we can meet somewhere in the middle.

I didn’t join a sorority to become a political activist.

You do realize that most sororities were founded on the basis of social activism, as well as sisterhood...

100+ years ago most Panhellenic groups were being founded as a means of support for the few women attending college at the time. Our PH Founders’ activism was a uniting factor for women during their day and nothing like the woke agenda we see now which has the potential to pit sister against sister if it isn’t toned down. \n\n\n\n\n

All the sororities were pretty woke for their time. Conservative women didn't go to college at all, much less join a womens org based on the mens fraternity system.

I think you’re using the term “conservative” here anachronistically where it really can’t be applied. What are you trying to reference with the word? Women with traditional values regarding marriage and family? Just so you know, women in the 19th century didn’t ALL get married and start having babies in their mid teens. Some did attend college if their families could afford to send them but their choices were limited compared to today.

I did some digging and discovered the first sororities were founded in 1851 and 1852 (the Adelphean Society known as Alpha Delta Pi today and the Philomathean Society today known as Phi Mu) and were known as “secret societies for women” at Wesleyan College, the first college for women in the USA which was established by Methodists in 1836 as evidence of the denomination’s concern for female education in America.

Since then most Greek PHC chapters for women have evolved into organizations promoting the ideals of scholarship, sisterhood, philanthropic community involvement and leadership development - NOT political activism. There are plenty of groups on campuses nationwide devoted to political causes if that’s where your interests lie. Go find one, join it and let
IT be your outlet for political activism if you are so inclined. The rhetoric and emotions involved are just too divisive for everyday Greek chapter life. You can’t alienate that many women and expect to remain successful. \n\n\n\n\n

In other words there's more at stake in all of this aside from politics.

Do you think that leadership means being the chair of CAC dance marathon or do you think that just maybe sororities are teaching their members to become leaders of America? Do you think the scholarship you mention means that sororities are only interested in grades or do you think they're interested in their members learning? When you mention community involvement do you think sororities are only aiming at their members being PTA president? You are living in the complete wrong century lady. Meet Kamala Harris the VP of the US and a sorority girl. So politics and political activism is an important part of sisterhood at OU and everywhere else in the country.

What a crock. Your side speaks out of both sides of its mouth. Yes, the hypocrisy is laughable but is proving destructive as well. Some obviously refuse to see it or just do not care.

Meet Amy Coney Barrett, America’s newest SC Justice and member of Kappa Delta @ Rhodes college. Sorority girl. Just like Kamala.
In case you missed it or conveniently looked the other way, thousands of Kappa Delta sisters nationwide who had every right to be proud of ABC’s incredible level of professional achievement while also enjoying a lovely and fulfilling personal life were summarily denied that right (aka cancelled). You see when Kappa Delta shared ABC’s accomplishment on their official FB page in celebration of their sister, the woke mob who disagree with parts of ABC’s points of view bullied KD leadership to the point of them offering a retraction and an eventual apology. This is where we are now apparently. Unreal. And incredibly damaging.

Save your sanctimony. It obviously only applies to one side.

Ask about house rules. The more conservative a house is the more they want to control their members. The more liberal a house is the more they allow you to think for yourself. One house has "suggested fraternities" to hang out with. I could hardly believe it when I heard about it, but my friend said that no one went against that suggestion. Some houses require hair and makeup before you step out of the house because they want to control their image.

Look up the word "communist." I'm afraid it doesn't mean what you think it does.

I've never seen a post like this where some boomer comes on to argue against everything we stand for and then writes post after post agreeing with herself and paying to delete the ones that don't agree. The funniest one is when she said YES Now I know I'm not alone after she'd answered herself so many times. Schizo is what she sounds like to me

“comes on to argue against everything we stand for”

NEWS FLASH: you don’t speak for an entire generation of college aged men and women.

The exaggerated sense of self importance as evidenced by that statement alone is 80 percent or more of the problem
