It doesn't mean it was the best just that the audience cheered for it the most. It's not the same as being the best all around performance

Judges voted for first, second and third place. The audience could turn in a ballot after each performance for the crowd favorite. They had ballots inside the programs for you to vote for the crowd favorite. Apparently, the crowd favorite was not the judges favorite. Everything is political. Even the girls chosen in some houses is based on who you know. I know of several vocal performance majors that are great singers but we're not chosen.

True, crowd favorite is all about who somehow managed to get the most tickets to using and the most ballots. It's usually not the best act but is an award that can be influenced. The rest of the awards are less biased.

It's a fun event everyone wants to win but it doesn't represent anything else( especially the most talented girls in each house lots of dance majors and vocalists just don't have time to be involved) but which performances the judges liked best. Congrats to the winners!
