sorority spring rush

by: Hopeful

I am a freshman at OU and went through Formal Recruitment in the fall without knowing what it consisted of. (I'm from an extremely small town and knew nothing of Greek life.) I simply just tried it to see what it was. The person writing my rec letters flaked last minute, so I was unable to turn any in and like most girls, fell in love with sorority life during rush. I was unsure of myself though and withdrew before pref. night. Now that I've found myself and came out of my shell, I can't help but wonder if a second chance is possible and what my odds are of joining a house during Spring. Any advice would be very greatly appreciated!

First off, this sounds kind of made up because even if you're from a small town, if you read the recruitment guide you know that one person doesn't write recs for any house except her own. So are you saying all 11 rec writers flaked at the last minute? That just seems unlikely. Also, if a house likes you enough, they will find a rec for you. But, assuming that your story is true, which I doubt, you need to get to know girls in all the sororities and tell them you're interested if their house takes some new members in the spring. You never know which houses might because it changes every year. Even top houses have new members some springs if they've had enough girls that are accepted early to dental school, med school, other HSC schools, etc. Nationals makes them take new members if girls have been successful professionally. It isn't advertized, you just have to know the right people - they're always girls that someone in the house really wants. In some ways it's much more exclusive than fall recruitment. You'll probably see someone on here say that only lower sororities ever recruit in the spring. Don't pay attention to them; they're just ignorant! Every single house at OU has spring recruited in the last few years.

agree that the story sounds a little like a set up, so I guess we'll wait and see if someone follows up with a bashing ---while some houses may have dropouts, some have such successful girls that they don't end up with 4 years on the Norman campus ---- which means that nationals requires them to get a few new members

It does sound made up but the top houses don't spring recruit. Top houses stay full and if they lose a few girls to graduation etc they can confidently wait til the next fall for recruitment. Some of the lower houses will say top houses spring recruit but they don't. They will also get on this site and pretend to be in a top house that spring recruited. Top houses don't spring recruit. If this is legit call greeklife but I'm betting this is bogus too.

Um... I don't know what house you're in but I'm in a top house. We did not spring recruit last year but did the two years before. We got 3 girls one year and I think 5 the year before. We are required by nationals if we lose a girl because they're admitted to med school after 3 years, we have to fill their places during the next school approved recruitment, whenever it is. It doesn't happen all the time, but girls are not pretending to be in top houses that have spring recruited from time to time.

Yes, med school after 3 years. It's quite exciting and she worked very hard for it. Also we've had girls admitted to nursing school, pt school, etc. Does your house not have any successful girls like that?

My apologies, I only had one girl for one house. Sorry for not clarifying that.

Also, I am not necessarily interested in "top houses" or "bottom houses" as much as I am interested in gaining a sisterhood and philanthropy opportunities. I don't know much about any of the houses and honestly feel like each one has good things to offer.

Please keep negative comments off of this post. Thank you! (:

Spring recruiting will only be done by houses who are not at house total. You need to contact greeklife.
