How important is it to be a legacy?
by: PNM2020I actually have three questions: 1. How helpful is it to be a legacy? 2. Do most sororities take all of their legacies? 3. On the “Non-legacy sorority reference forms” it asks the writer to list all legacy affiliations, will that mean those sororities won’t look at me as closely if i tell them i am a legacy at another sorority? Thanks for all the help!

It takes a lot to get noticed. You will definitely be noticed if you are a known legacy. It does not guarantee a bid. Legacies do get cut. But it helps to get any extra notice with 1000 girls going through.
As far as the pan app I have heard different things. I was dropped hard the first round. But it was well known I was most likely wanting my legacy group. So it made sense. I had four houses after that first round until pref. It all worked out, but only bc my legacy sorority wanted me too.
Others say it doesn’t matter. And several were dropped hard after 1st round like I was. But who knows, they might have been dropped anyways. There are enough reports of heavy first round cuts might lead me to not put my legacy status on the pan app.
Make sure your legacy house has your info. And that you have refs for all other houses.
The reason it is good to know a girl has family in sororities is it shows they understand the time and money commitment. They are likely to stay involved all four years. And that is important.
So good luck. Just wanted to throw my opinion in there since it was a bit different from the experience of the first reply.

What are the reasons a sorority would cut a legacy?
When I was going through, I felt like we had to have a good reason to cut a legacy. Is it just that there are so many legacies it does not mean anything anymore?
Just curious as my daughter is going through this year and I was counting on my house to welcome her.
