RIF vs Letter of Support?
by: Boomer 2024!Hey! I keep hearing that I need both letters of support and reference letters for some houses? For the life of me, I can’t figure out the difference - none of the definitions online make sense. Is there really a difference? The OU site says they don’t recommend letters of support, but I heard some of the sororities actually do require them. Just confused...

A RIF (Recruitment information form) is something that is required for most houses in order to pledge a certain girl. This is just a basic form that is filled out by an alumni member of that particular sorority that has all of the stats and activities listed on it for that particular PNM. It’s essentially a box to check off and it asks the alumni to state whether they recommend the girl for that sorority or not based solely on their resume. I would recommend that you try to get at least one of these for every house. A letter of support is an additional letter that is written by an alumni of a sorority that PERSONALLY knows the girl that she is writing about. This essentially gives the chapter a look more into what the personality of that girl is like. These are not necessary but can sometimes help, depending on whether or not that house really cares about these letters or not. Neither one of these are necessary, but it’s definitely important to focus on getting a RIF for each house, as these do not have to be filled out by someone who personally knows the PNM. Hope this helps!!

From what I understand, a lot if not all of the houses require a RIF to be on file for a particular girl before they will give them a bid. But this could vary from house to house!
