are “good luck” gifts real during recruitment?

by:

Weird question from a new boomer parent! Someone mentioned to me that girls going thru recruitment sometimes get little recruitment gifts from their parents thruout the week - but not all schools do it. Is this really a thing at OU? If so, what have you ladies received in the past? I’ve heard about bid day gifts, but never this!

You can buy gifts throughout the week and bid day baskets.

Save your money and put it toward tuition or your child’s future not inane rush week gifts where parents try to one up each other.

My mom sent me a gift. She sent me two gifts for the first two days of rush. But it was only small things in the basket like popcorn a Phone fan and little stuff like that. She also got me a bid day basket. I wouldn’t say it was necessary probably half the girls got gifts during rush and half didn’t. Your daughter wouldn’t feel left out if she didn’t get one. The only reason my mother sent me them was because she was stressed for me since she knew nothing about Greek life other than what she saw in movies haha. It’s definitely not a necessity

Small little things like that are cute and thoughtful. I’ve seen some parents send gifts that scream conspicuous consumption and that are just tacky tbh. The air is emotionally charged enough that final day — the overboard gifts make the girls who are already feeling down about themselves feel that much worse. Save the 6 ft. living bouquet for when your child comes home.

It’s definitely not necessary but it’s definitely a sweet gesture. Rush can be a very hard and stressful time for girls. On top of the stress from rush it’s also the first week moved away from home. My mom sent me a couple of little baskets throughout the week and by no means did I expect her to but it definitely put a smile on my face during that time. I would recommend maybe a small basket with snacks or something practical during the week and then if you wanted to get her something big wait to do that with the bid day basket, because she’ll be so excited to rep her new letters!!

i didn’t get one! Some girls did though, it was like snacks and stuff. I’d say looking back if you do anything get her a bid day basket with stuff from her sorority.

I loved getting encouraging gifts and then a bid day basket.
