Do all the houses require you to live in house a year?

They all require living in, but you may not have to actually live in if you don't want to. Almost all the houses have one pc at a time live in plus offices etc., at least the ones I've heard of. If there aren't enough beds for that many girls (huge classes, lots of transfers, etc.)they may allow some to live out. You can ask your chapter how they deal with it.

Yes, but I believe they all (or almost all, this is how my chapter does it) use a point system to allow you to pick. If you have a ton of points from attending all meetings & events, no fines, high GPA, officer/ committee involvement, you have a higher point number.

If after exec board (mandatory live-in) and any upperclassmen who want to live in, there are for example 50 spots left in the house, then the person in your pledge class with the highest points can either get first pick of their room or decline to live in the house, and so forth until the house is full. If too many girls decline to live-in then the girls with the least pints are forced to live there. I think it rarely comes to that but it’s possible. It’s mandatory by nationals to keep the house full and part of our membership requirement to live in if necessary.

Loved it! It’s when I really began to feel like I was part of a sisterhood and more than just a member. I mean, I didn’t love every single second. Sometimes you want to be alone. Or have peace and quiet. But I would trade that year for anything. The girls in our pledge class who didn’t live-in never bonded the same way. I feel like I could call any one of the girls I lived in with to hang out or in an emergency.
