bid night

by:

What are the main reasons girls leave without a bid on bid day? I was reading on the PAN website and it says that only about 80-90% get a bid at the end of recruitment and I don’t know why but I thought the numbers would’ve been closer to 95% idk maybe I’m just crazy haha.

I’m pretty sure the numbers used to be closer to 95% but last year was a tough recruitment. The reason everyone is not guaranteed a house is because OU just doesn’t have enough room for the 1,100+ girls that decide to go through recruitment. Just go in with an open mind and be yourself 100%. I know a handful of girls that got dropped completely last year but ended up getting snap bids on bid day morning. There’s honestly no telling the numbers each year until it happens.

So realistically does mostly everyone get a get a bid as long as they true to theirselves and keep their options open and not become too closed minded and picky? From what I heard most sororities meet quota at the end of recruitment expect maybe one or two.

just be yourself and always be kind to every girl you talk to during recruitment and you should have no worries!

@Honestly is misleading. OU has room for as many girls as want to go through recruitment. Quota is the number of girls going into pref divided by 11. So if there are a lot the classes are bigger. If not, the classes are smaller. So DON'T WORRY!!! As for the the ones who don't get a bid. Most of that 10% drop out of recruitment with one or more houses left. They think they are too good for the houses they have left - maybe they've spent too much time on GR! It's really sad because all our houses are good and they all have girls of every type. But if you hear someone say they dropped out because they didn't "feel at home" or didn't think they'd fit in, it probably means "I'm way too good for a house GR says is in the lower tier." The thing is, once classes start, everyone figures out that the whole tier thing is silly and they like you for who you are not what house you're in. I hung out with girls I'd met in my dorm that were in a different house most of the time freshman year. It just didn't matter. A few girls might get dropped completely because of something like being a legacy to one house, the other houses think you're going there then your legacy drops you and don't have any houses. BE sure and tell other houses that you're keeping an open mind if you are. Also, if after Philanthropy day (8 parties) you get your dream of your top 5 for Sisterhood day and don't make it to the top of any of those houses' lists, you could be cut completely before pref. But if you get to pref with at least one house, you're guaranteed a bid.

@ Honestly - wrong.

There is no “cap” on the number of girls who get bids; there’s room for everyone who makes it to Pref night. Quota is the number of PNMs with pref invitations divided by the number of chapters. More PNMs than a prior year just mean bigger pledge classes. The only PNM’s who don’t get bids after attending Pref are those who suicide and don’t get their first choice.

Last year rush was different because a lot of girls dropped due to various reasons that still had houses left on their schedule. As long as you keep an open mind and are outgoing (or just pretend to be for a few days lol) then you should be fine! For maximum chances, act interested in every house even if you aren't, because you never know!

If you have decent grades, recs, clean social media, and don't think you are too good for some of the chapters you will get invitations back. If you decide only one or two chapters are good enough for you it will be a very rough, and probably very short week when you melt down over your invitations.

Seriously, all the chapters at OU are great. Don't be so impressed by a house that recruits really well that you reject others that may be a great option for you. Also, don't think that the fact that you rank order houses by how much you like them gives you any power because it doesn't.

Pan is really misleading. Rush isn’t all rainbows and butterflies. Honestly it’s cut throat and the truth is a big number of girls drop completely when they get their schedules back and see that all of the tops houses cut them and they’re too prideful/ think they’re too good for a bottom house. You’ll see it a lot. And honestly the girls in the bottom houses are just as amazing as the girls in the top houses if you’re willing to give them a chance. Be yourself and have fun but don’t think you’re too good to be disappointed. Humble yourself and be genuine and you’ll be good

@Truth the sad thing is that these little high school PNMs look to websites like this to get the lay of the land because they don't know very much about the Greek community at OU. So when disingenuous alums tell them that there are only five good houses, the PNMs as well as the other six houses end up suffering. Our entire Greek community would be better off if we were more supportive and less competitive.
