more about sororities
by: Hey y’allHey y’all, I’ll be transferring to OU in the fall & just decided for the heck of it it to rush (I’ll be a sophomore btw). Can anyone tell me more about the sororities on campus because I don’t know anything about them since I don’t know anyone at OU. Oh & I’m pretty sure I am a legacy to AXO. But yeah can anyone tell me stuff about the Greek life & sororities there. Please no negative stuff let’s keep it positive :)

Don't put too much emphasis on the legacy thing. You might not be a good match at that house and other houses may drop you because they assume you're going there. Also, be prepared for a lot of houses to drop you because you're a transfer student, not a freshman. I don't quite know why you're asking this question on here, but if you want a bid, you are going to have to go to some effort, not just do it on a whim. Some houses take only freshman, some may take one or two older girls, and some take who they can get. If you don't know anyone AND you're not a freshman, that's two strikes. Make sure you have recs for all the houses and keep an open mind about your choices. You probably won't get a bid from a top house and if you don't play nicely, you won't even get a bid from a bottom house. So don't think about tiers and popularity. Think about possibilities.

When she said she wanted to know about the sororities before going through recruitment, tiers is the only thing I can think of. No one is going to single out girls by name and tell you stuff about them, so you just have to look at the house as a whole. Since no house is all sports minded girls and no house is all singers and dancers, and no house is all beauty queens, and no house is all debutantes, and no house always wins homecoming etc. You're left with these are top 5 these are bottom 2 etc.

I don’t think you should have brought up the tier idea to her. To get technical, tiers don’t exist. All the people ranking these houses are within the Panhellenic Association, therefore making it biased. Something that is biased cannot be proved. So, the “top 5” to you may differ from my “top 5” and the next girls/guys “top 5.” So, let’s say she gets a bid from XYZ sorority after visiting all the houses. She may feel that sorority XYZ is a top house in her eyes. Ranks are illegitimate so to the girl who originally posted this, ignore the tier comment.
