dirty rushing

by:

I just graduated and will be rushing in the fall, I’ve heard the term “dirty rushing”, what is it, and what do i do if I think its happening to me and my friends? We’ve had a bunch of girls follow us from mainly 1 or 2 sororities, and a few have even dm’d us congratulating us on graduation and asking about us. Is this allowed, what is not allowed? If it crosses a line what do we do? We do not want to break any rules, and want to rush correctly as much as possible. Thank you!

Dirty rushing is basically where members of a sorority are communicating with you during times when they’re NOT suppose to. Girls from other houses can follow you, but if they’re dming you from the time school got out (May 15 I think) to when formal recruitment starts THAT IS NOT OKAY. If they’re dming you do not reply because you and them can be considered part of dirty rushing. If this continues you could report them but that’s kinda extreme. I would just ignore their DMs to be safe since pan is cracking down on dirty rushing and a lot of ppl enjoy snitching.

the girls can follow you, and a lot might, but DMing you or contacting you in any way is not allowed and the sorority can get in huge trouble for that

So should I just ignore it? Or do I need to tell someone?

If you want to tell someone you can contact Panhellenic (I think their info is on the OU pan website) and let them know. You wouldn't get in trouble but they could deal with the chapters. But as long as you dont communicate with actives you should be fine

Do these girls already know you (from HS, clubs, etc)? You are friends with them in person (not just on Insta/social media)...then calm down, mija. If you have never met them in person, that's one thing...but if you already know them...just calm down.

No, I’ve never met any of them previously. I have friends that are in sororities, but we already followed each other and talked so I don’t see that as weird.

yeah its no problem to talk to people you already knew before this process! the only problem is people who followed you that you don’t know AND messaged you. following you isn’t against the rules

Current members are not supposed to be communicating with PNMs after May 1 unless they already know you! If it makes you uncomfortable, feel free to report it or block them, but otherwise you should not be worried :)

Are you gonna be a student here, or one of the other three sites you posted this on? I'm so confused.

Haven’t posted anywhere else, but I’m glad I did post here, I got clear info. I didn’t want to go to my friends who are already greek because then they would want to know who, what house they were from, ect. Asking anon was the best I could come up with. Notice I didn’t name any specific houses, because my post wasn’t intended to bash anyone or start drama.

But why is the exact same post on three other sites? Coincidence?

First, a PNM cannot get in trouble for being dirty rushed so do not worry that you are going to get in trouble in any way.

Second, I think social media has changed a lot about the way rush works. Yes, they are not supposed to be contacting you after May 1, but I do think there is a big difference in an active you don’t know IRL messaging you a “congrats” after graduating or a “how’s your summer?” or liking your pics and an active you don’t know taking you out for ice cream or inviting you to stay with her.

I would just reply with a friendly but short message, “thanks, have a great summer!”

Now if they’re constantly DMing you saying “you’ll be the perfect ABC” “you’ll be the most fun little” “who are you interested in” “do you like XYZ”.....then that’s waaaaay over the line into dirty rushing and should be screen-shot and sent to Panhellenic.
