advice pls

Alpha Phi is a pretty decent house here, usually ranked 6 or 7 (not that that really matters). Alpha Phis typically are seen as the party girls that are more on the wild side and go out a lot, and usually APhi recruits heavily for looks. But there are some really nice girls and their house is really cute!! It depends on what kind of girls you fit in with.

They are a hard house to enjoy unless you're a pageant girl. If you're just an ordinary pretty girl they have all kinds of restrictions on how you have to dress and facial make up. Plus the girls are not that nice according to friends in that house. They have a group of three girls and they say that no one else was ever nice or tried to include them. They pretty much hang out with me and my sisters all the time.

I went through rush this year and had A Phi and KKG as my last two houses on pref night. I decided to pref A Phi because they just felt like a better fit for me. I’m a wild party girl so I like to have fun and A Phi is definitely the house to be in if you want to have fun. But if you don’t like to drink, you won’t enjoy A Phi because during initiation week we have a night called “Black Out” which is when you have to get black out drunk. I obviously enjoyed it but some people didn’t and realized that that wasn’t the house they belonged in. So heads up if you want to be an A Phi, you better be like me and be a wild girl who loves to drink!

"My mom loved it, but is it cool, it might have changed since she was here." My mom was at OU in the early 90s and says Alpha Phi was dead last in rankings and had been for quite a while. Their nationals pulled them off campus for a while.

Not that it matters now, but it's funny that you worry if it has changed. You should probably be glad it has.

I wouldnt bank too much on getting a bid from Alpha Phi. Yes, being a legacy will help you out, but if they don’t think you fit the Alpha Phi “type” then they won’t give you a bid. I know a few girls who were legacies but got cut early on from APhi.

Alpha Phi is a terrible choice. There are so many houses at OU that you should be able to find one that is actually something you will be proud of. The Legacy thing is cool. But the above poster is right. In the 90s they were horrific and got closed. When they came back to campus, they brought this really creepy strategy and they select members pretty much entirely on looks. You must be at LEAST a 7 out of 10 on the beauty scale to even get considered. By now, they are already stalking future freshmen on social media. If your insta isn't on point, and I mean ON POINT, forget it. If you REALLY want the legacy thing, then just go in knowing that you may be in for some disappointments along the way. Maybe your mom should do more research on what is up with the modern day Alpha Phi. It's not pretty and its a national thing. Google University of Michigan Alpha Phi for more details. Good luck.
