alpha phi article

by:

OK, so I went to read the article and had to change the url to find it. This one is more accurate: oudaily.com/news/2011/aug/22/column-my-sorority-ex perience/ The A Phi that wrote it said they told her what kind of underwear to wear (!!!!!) and that certain girls had to wear spanx! The worst was this:

"Worst of all, no black women returned. I was told we were too new on campus to taint our image. I will say no more on the subject, because that says it all." OMG!!!!!!

I can't believe this happens on our campus. I guess no one should wear a hoodie to APhi!

Might want to ask yourself why Gamma Phi is trying to keep this post and the other on top all the time. Maybe it's because when it comes to recruitment the only girls your house get is the top 6 houses left overs. Might want to concentrate on your house instead of other people's grammar. You compete with DG and AXO, your jealousy over the top houses is hilarious. You aren't fooling anyone that attends OU.

This article doesn't surprise me after meeting the Alpha Phis I have at OU.

Now A Phi is on here all the time saying that they're a top 6 house. Do they not read the paper?

Please, don't believe articles like this or a lot of the information on this site. Both Gphi and Aphi as well as every house on campus have amazing girls. All groups have girls that are both good and bad. You are not going to finding a house where each girl is perfect and nice. Every girl has a different personality. These articles might be saying bad thing about Alpha Phi and Gamma Phi,but people have plenty to say about Theta,Tri Delt, AGD, AOII,Alpha Chi, DG, Chi Omega,Pi Phi and Kappa. Personally, I have met both good and bad girls in every house. So please do not base your sisterhood experience on this site and by reading an article written by a girl who clearly should not have been in greek life at all. This girl needed something to write about and honestly, the OU Daily is unfortunately a laughing stalk at OU. For example, they once posted a link to an autopsy and showed disrespect to a late female student at OU. Therefore, the OU Daily is honestly not a very reputable source.

It’s true that many mean comments have been written about mostly Gamma Phi and Theta (and now you seem to be picking on Beta, too.) You should know since you're written them. (Remember, we can tell by your bad use of language.)

You seem to be recruiting for a lower tier house -- possibly A Phi or Chi O -- and your message is that they've taken over Gamma Phi's spot in the top 4. A panhellenic group is trying to watch this site to refute those nasty remarks because they're untrue and dirty rush. We’re the ones that keep reposting the one true thing that PNMs can know is true about the houses which is how sororities did in competitions last year.

This article, though is another true thing. The Daily is not a laughing stock (by the way, the word is “stock,” not “stalk.”) The reporters are trained in journalism principles and this article was obviously investigative journalism at its best. The writer lived as an Alpha Phi for a school year and wrote about her experiences. She wrote about superficiality, lack of sisterhood, artificiality of the girls “look,” etc. Shrug those experiences off if you want to as common to many sororities. But don’t shrug off the race issue. It is beyond me why anyone would consider a house that didn’t want to be “tainted” by minorities. Especially when the top houses all have African American girls. It’s shameful and disgusting.

Read this article. It's useful and true. Don't support hatred!

I agree. If a house supports hatred. Stay far away!

This is the article that some girl doesn't want you to see. Read it and decide for yourself.

I am absolutely certain a PNM wrote this and not a lower tier sorority member-or maybe a sorority that finds themselves competing with APhi suddenly. Or maybe a person that doesn't even go to Oklahoma. I am sure it couldn't have been someone from another sorority trotting out old news before Rush. Whatever.

Pledging African American women is commonplace at OU. The sororities with African American pledges last year are AGD, AOII, XO, DDD, DG, GPB, PBP, and KKG. Those can be verified by their bid day pics. My Theta friend says they have a girl (she told me her name) who is African American in their last pc but I didn't see her picture so I can't verify it.

I agree with hmmmm. Sad that this issue comes up at all. But every sorority on campus is secretly thanking GOD that the reporter didn't pledge THEIR house because they know the same mess goes down in their sorority. It is shameful and awful, but I too am sick of the hypocrisy, especially of the person who went way into the archives to dig this article up. PNM...yea, sure.

You don't need to go "way into the archives to dig this article up." I ran into it by googling "ou alpha phi" and it was on the first page of google. I didn't post it, but I believe that many other PNMs who are interested in finding out about the houses before rush do use google and this is certainly out there and easy to find.

My house is a top house and I think that if the reporter had been a pledge in my house we would have welcomed her and she would have had a completely different experience. By the way, we have minorities in our house and choose our sisters based on the content of their character rather than the color of their skin.

I didn't finish and clicked submit. And I love the people who are "tracking" the person with bad grammar and know which house they come from. OMG! Shut up Nancy Drew and go solve an ice cream theft at the malt shop. You sound utterly ridiculous.

I love it that her grammar gives her away and that her hate-filled comments can be tracked. It's ridiculous that she keeps writing comments then replying to them as if she had an army behind her. Only thing, though, her grammar tells everyone she's an army of one. I think people with that much hate to spew need to be tracked and held accountable. I'm tired of bullies everywhere who feel like because this site is anonymous they can lie without anyone calling them on it.
