sororities

by:

I was researching the sororities at OU and found this article. I couldn't believe it!!!! It was published in the OU newspaper.

Very old news and several rebuttals were written to it. People's opinions(and that's what the article is- one opinion) from 2011 seems to be relevant for you- why? I think you're trying to make people dislike Alpha Phi because no matter what you say, they get better girls than your house and rank higher. That's why you don't like all the Greek Rank posts on ranking the sororities - keep swinging on your moon.

You're getting me confused with someone else - and the opinions in the article were those of the girl who wrote it.

I dunno. I just thought it was interesting. Especially that they wouldn't allow minority girls in their house.

I don't think your being fair, try meeting the girls. Prejudice is pre- judging isn't that what you're doing?

to me, I'm not prejudging anything, just gathering info before rush......

I think it's interesting what members of a house have to say about their own house, that's all. And yes, I'd definitely be prejudiced against this house with the attitudes that their member says they have.

As far as rebuttals, it was in the school newspaper and was the writer's opinion. And she had been in that house during that school year. So no, someone else coming on greekrank saying that she was wrong wouldn't persuade me.

I can't belive that. What an article! I hope all the houses aren't like that. I was offended by the black book that told them what to wear. And the racism too, oh my gosh!!!!!!

Before you judge a house you need to gather all the facts. Even if Alpha Phi has no African - American girls you do not know why. Maybe they liked another house better, or wanted to be in a top house and got in the house they wanted. Maybe the African-American girls cut Alpha Phi .The year was also 2011 and over half the girls have changed so you are prejudging the girls in the house today. Also, one of the houses keeps getting on this site saying negative things about all the other houses at OU so I wouldn't gather facts on this site.

And it was an opinion of an upset girl who may have been motivated for any number of reasons to say something bad about the house, unless you have all the facts you are being unfair and making serious accusations against their sorority. If you are truly concerned investigate it and find facts to back up the statements. There were numerous rebuttals in the Daily too. I hope you aren't just looking for a reason to slander a house.

She didn't sound upset. She sounded alienated and disgusted. There isn't any need for readers of journalism to investigate since that's what journalists are for. She did the investigation and reported. I believe her. If you don't, that's fine.

She's meaning she was shocked and all the people that are taking an editorial at face value and spreading it around as indisputable fact without disclosing all the rebuttals are slandering the house.

First off slander has to be false and there isn't anything to suggest that writers for the OU Daily write false material for the paper. It was what happened to her from her point of view. I'm sure other people have had different experiences but chose not to write about it. Second, I'm sure the person who posted it was shocked by the contents of the article. They are pretty shocking. The use of the word "taint" in a racial context is bad, but what's worse in my opinion is that she suggested that there was a lot more she could have said about it. This isn't hearsay, folks, this is stuff that a journalist had said to her by girls in Alpha Phi sorority. Reading the entire article will definitely turn you off of that sorority and maybe all sororities.

Where's your proof? Or do you believe everything you read?
