legacies and letters of rec

by: needtokno

I am considering rushing for fall of 2019 and I was curious to see if OU honors legacies/is that an important factor in the recruitment process. Also how important are letters of rec?

Yes, OU sororities honor legacies! They don't necessarily guarantee as much as they did in the past since there are so many girls going through rush now, but they still matter. If your legacy house does not want you, they have to cut you early on so as to not lead you on. And if you make it to pref night at your legacy house, you are usually placed at the top of the bid list. Here's my advice, however: if you are not 100% sure you would want to be in the house you're a legacy for, don't declare yourself as a legacy!! Rush is so competitive now that other houses often will cut you early on upon seeing that you are a legacy, particularly if you're a legacy for a top house. But if you can see yourself in your legacy house, then yes, it can definitely help!
As for rec letters, I don't think they're all that important. You should still get as many as you can, just to make yourself more known, but don't stress about it too much... usually they don't make too much of a difference. Hope this helps!

Rec Letters aren't important at all. I had one for some of the houses and they were the ones that cut me first round. All the ones I was left with I had no legacy/rec letter for. I think most of the houses rush based on your activities and personality.

I'd say in the top houses letter of rec are important. We'll still take a girl with no rec but nationals requires recs so we have to get an alum to write one. If there are several girls we want that are equal, we'll take the one who already has a rec. Be safe not sorryyyy
