grades?
by: OU PNMHow high should my grades be to join a sorority? Does anyone know the specifics of what each house requires? and is it different or the same if I wait until my second yr to join?

Each house has a pre ranking system, points are assigned out to the PNMs, each house is different it comes from their nationals. You need good grades ,activities ,leadership ,volunteer work, etc -if the houses don't know you and you have low grades they will often cut you the first day. Do not let this site frighten you. Send in a good resume and your grades on a 4.0 scale. Generally the soph GPA is higher. There are 11 houses at OU and usually 5 are always in the tops for grades - but as u can see on this site one house got into it the year that usually doesn't - and the top 6 houses were only separated by one hundredth of a point. This site is full of girls who were freshmen last year and don't really know how it works. Houses will make exceptions for Pom girls, cheerleaders, affluent girls, some legacies- etc. if a house only recruits on grades they are not well rounded- grades are important but don't let that discourage you.

Grades are important but just one aspect of college life. Look at the listing of all the ways houses can be involved. There are also intramurals if you're a sporty girl.
But still, grades are probably the most important. Our house cuts everyone below a certain grade point after the first day.

yeah, somewhat. Your pledge sisters will be a year younger than you. But if you don't have good grades (regardless of what others have said here) it's going to be hard to get a bid. Everyone in the house knows that there is a lot to do, and if you're struggling before pledging, you're going to bring down the average afterward.
I still think you should go through as a freshman and just see. You may have a best friend in a house that can use her pull to get you in. Just don't be disappointed if not.
You can still go through as a sophmore if it doesn't work out this year. That way, you have a year to make stellar grades and get to know lots of sorority women. Then you'll have a great sophomore recruitment!

Check your facts. OU does not cross cut. If a girl goes through recruitment on the OU campus, and does not choose to drop out during the week, as long as she does not choose to go suicide (after the pref parties) she will receive a bid. Please stop giving out incorrect information. I realize you believe you are correct, but you are not.
Snap bids can only be given to girls that have dropped during the week and only certain houses may give them out (those that do not reach quota-which is rare at OU). Usually every house achieves quota at OU--which is different from house total.

None of the houses recruit only on grades. The ones who win grades are incredibly well rounded. Theta, Gamma Phi, and Pi Phi won grades last year and all won numerous other things as well.
It's wrong to tell PNMs that they shouldn't be discouraged if they have bad grades. The truth is that with low grades they're not going to get into a house that is ranked very high. That's fine, though. The other houses may take them and be so glad to have them as sisters. They just need to have an open mind and not decide in advance which house they want.
