grades?

How high should my grades be to join a sorority? Does anyone know the specifics of what each house requires? and is it different or the same if I wait until my second yr to join?

The sororities compete on grades each semester so the higher your grades are the more desirable as a PNM you are to the houses.

If your grades are below 3.6 or 3.8 or so, you should expect heavy cuts, especially from the top 5 houses. Just don't drop out of recruitment at that point. All the houses are good and they're all better than being an independent.

Is one of the things the sororities look at closely-- 3.6 up is best.

If you wait until your sophomore year you have less of a chance because most PNMs are freshmen. Houses want to pledge freshmen because they have more years to give the house. If your best friend is in a house, though, they might take you as a soph.

It's up to each individual house, soph quota is different than freshman quota, houses can do what they choose. Some of the top houses do occasionally take sophomores.

Lots of information on this site is wrong- don't pay to much attn to it all go through recruitment and you will easily see which houses are most desirable!

3.6 at least. Lots of girls going through rush will have weighted grades of over 4.0. Sororities will want to know that you can handle college and activities and your high school grades are a good indication.

Thanks guys! So if I wait until Sophomore year to go through rush, will my grades have to be 3.6-3.8 as well? or is on a different system because college is way harder than highschool?

We don't know. I can just tell you about my house. In my house we're unlikely to give a bid to someone with a 3.4 or so just because there is so much more to do when you're in a sorority and we need to know you can keep your grades up. As you know, academics is a big competition and the best houses strive to win grades. There are houses that don't ever win grades that might take a risk.

I feel the same as you OU PNM! But what if we try to be super involved with clubs and organizations but our grades arent 3.4-3.8? I plan to get a job my freshman yr and I feel like I wont have the time to get the highest GPA like in HS. Can being active kinda balance it out?

No. You'll have even less time with a job, new member activities, and college. I agree that your best bet is a house that doesn't go for grades every year.

Don't plan to be in a top house. You'll just be disappointed and sad when you're cut. Don't plan to go through as a sophomore. You won't get a bid even to a lower house. Grades are important everywhere.
