rushing as a trans girl

by: TransGirl

Hi ladies! I am a trans woman, and I am wanting to rush next year at OU. I know DG and Kappa have a national policy to be all-inclusive for trans women, but I am wondering what the general consensus is within Greek life at OU? Is it worth my time or will I be cut from all the houses? I have great grades, good reputation, involved, nice, etc.

Personally l think it's great that you are open to the idea of rush. But I would be lying if I said that I personally would encourage someone I knew that was transgender to rush at OU. DG and Kappa may have bylaws that say they are all inclusive but that does not nexsssarily mean they will keep you because of that'. I think that whatever house gives a bid to you they would be taking a huge step in the right direction in terms of equality but there are alumni and others who would not be as accepting and may express this during rush. I think you would really have to go in with an open mind. You may get cut from a lot of houses but you don't want a house that doesn't want you. Best of luck to you next year!

I'm not saying not to own who you are, but gender dysmorphia, body dysmorphia, eating disorders, mental illness, past abuse, etc. are topics that are a little heavy to discuss during the short times you have with each girl during recruitment.
