cob= low membership

by:

Houses doing COB are not at house total which means they are not a top house. Top houses stay above house total because they are allowed to take quota during fall formal recruitment which always keeps them above house total. Any house doing COB is not a top house.

Any house that has mentally ill members obsessed with GR like Chi Omega is not a top house either.

Someone is sooooo misinformed! COB can mean a house that has lost a lot of girls because they dropped out or because they didn't make quota, but that is pretty rare at OU. If you're under total (average # of members) you are allowed to COB up to total. Houses that are under total are usually under because of early graduation or girls going to HSC to study. Some houses (like Kappa) are prohibited by nationals from participating in COB. Other houses are required by their nationals to participate. So the fact that a house does COB means nothing relative to their rank on campus.

Most houses only can COB a very few girls, so if you're interested, let your friends in the various houses know that if they can COB, you're interested.

You don't seem to know much about top houses or about reasons for doing COB. Girls do have to leave even top houses because of financial reasons, because they're transferring to another school, because they're doing inpatient rehab, because they're going to nursing school at Health Science Center, and because they graduate early. Yeah, and some drop out because they don't like the rules and some are asked to leave because they don't follow rules or don't make grades. We don't have as many leave just because they didn't get the house they wanted, but yeah, we have girls leave for all those other reasons. You're just probably not in a top house so you don't know. My house is not allowed to replace those girls until next formal recruitment unless the university mandates it. That doesn't mean we aren't under total, it just means we can't fill those places.

In other words, there is no shame in being under total and no shame in COB. It doesn't mean anything as far as rank goes.

It's the fall and any girl graduating in the spring wouldn't effect a top house because during formal recruitment all houses can take quota and top houses always take quota which causes top houses to be above total. Try some other excuses as to the reason your sad little house has to COB after formal recruitment. The only truthful reason is your house is not at house total or above.

I don't know about everyone's house but we sometimes end up under total if we have girls who get accepted to nursing school. We consider that very highly and are so proud of them but they do leave after sophomore or junior year. We've also had girls who have so many hours coming into college that they are ready to graduate early and go to medical school or law school. We also have girls who are off for student teaching. None of those things are considered in total so we can be several girls under total without anyone transferring or anything.

You obviously don't understand total. It means the total of the whole house, not just quota. By the way all the houses at OU took quota during recruitment.

Doesn't OU use the median chapter size? Which means 5 chapters are always under or at total when it is calculated each semester? I don't think that is a good indicator of anything. Just the way it is. Nether good nor bad.

It's bad because the top houses are never the houses under or barely at total. On OU's campus COB is for the lower houses. Spin it over and over but no matter how you put it lower houses COB at OU.

True sometimes, not true sometimes. I'm in a top house and we are prohibited by our national organization from recruiting except for formal recruitment unless mandated by our university. We have been under total many semesters. Maybe every semester I've been here and we have never COBed. Not because we were at total, but because it is optional so we were not allowed by nationals. Perhaps you could just speak for your own house instead of making really stupid blanket statements that turn out to be untrue.

I'm in a top house and we will probably take a couple of girls in cob. Our nationals lets us make up our own mind about whether to cob but there are a couple that had to miss recruitment that we're interested in.

Not at OU a house at or above total is not allowed to COB if it makes you feel better to post that then believe it but all the top houses are above house total and can not COB

Aren't only registered chapters with Panhellenic COB allowed to take girls? Or do more chapters get added to COB? Right now I think it's only two houses officially.

I think it's funny that there is some girl from a house whose nationals doesn't allow them to do cob keeps trying to put down houses that do. It literally has nothing to do with rank, only to do with nationals regulations. I guess if you don't have anything else to brag about you put other houses down for something that doesn't matter.

Our house is a top house and we could take two girls but have decided not to because it's too much work to catch two girls up. I'm glad our international rules give us the choice.

Some do get the choice, some are required to cob if they're under total.

Exactly. Some are required by nationals to do it even if they are one short of total (which can totally happen if someone graduates early, goes to Health Sciences full time or -- heaven forbid -- flunks out (which happens at every level). This would likely happen so far under the radar (or in snap bidding) that you wouldn't even know. So, no, COB doesn't equal low numbers.
