I think the idea of a set rank is kind of stupid, because houses will appeal to do different girls for different reasons. It's all based on what you like andand who you connect with. That being said, certain houses do compete against each other. That would normally be:
Kat/ tri delt/ pi phi (Gamma phi also competes w/ Pi phi)
Gamma phi/ XO (DG also competes with XO)
DG/ Aphi/ axo
Aopi/AGD (aopi competes with aphi a little bit)

I agree that the important thing is which houses compete. Your list is a little off and leaves out Kappa completely. I was a Rho G last August and have a very clear idea of which houses girls had going into pref when they had narrowed them down to the ones they could see themselves in.
Groups in parenthesis compete for the same type girls.
(Tri Delta, Theta, Gamma Phi) (Kappa, Pi Phi)
(AXO, DG, Chi O, AP)
(AOII, AGD)
I'm not saying any house is better than any other, just that they general type of girls they recruit is different.

That's ok. Different girls prefer different houses and that's why recruitment works as well as it does. But all the top five houses compete for the same girls. If anything, I'd say that Pi Phi is the one that isn't quite on the same playing field.

I totally agree with this and can see why those houses would compete during rush. Theta, tri delt, and gamma phi all have very studious, often religious girls (good girl type). Kappa and Pi phi are more of the beauty queen cheerleader type. XO, DG, aphi, and AXO are all more of the party girl type. Aopi and AGD are normally artsy unique girls. All the houses have great girls!

I agree that you should go through recruitment to make your decision -there is no doubt about that. But the list you object to is actually pretty accurate. I might break on group into two, but there is overlap, so...

Pretty well spot on but I'd move AOII up to the second level.
Tri Delta, Theta, Gamma Phi, Kappa, Pi Phi
AXO, DG, Chi O, AP, AOII
AGD
The top five all compete to some extent. The next five compete. I feel like next year AGD will compete at a higher rate with the second five. They'll have their new house and it's going to be great.

There are always exceptions but this is pretty close to my experience too. I think it sounds like the person above doesn't like being compared to the sororities her house is linked with. I say just relax. Girls will go through recruitment and think what they think. You can't tell them which house is best for them and it looks like now you have realized that.

Not exactly. GPB is a good house but they by no means are on the same level as DDD and Theta.
