junior and senior drop outs?
by: ?Is it common to drop out of your sorority once you are a jr or sr? My sister says not to stress too much over rush bc it might only be for a couple years anyway. She thinks a lot of girls drop or just stop showing up at functions bc they prefer to go to bars when they turn 21. And have a closer knit group of friends from the same classes by then which include girls from outside the sorority. Is there any truth to that?

We may not officially drop out but many of us are less active. Let's face it, our sororities are just too big which accounts for lack of sisterhood. Our pledge classes are 140-150. Top fraternities are harder to get into than top sororities.
Sororities are still a good way to help you make your first connections as a freshman though.

I mean it makes sense...you have a ton of fun your freshman and sophomore and maybe even junior years...but at some point you mature
And if the sisterhood isn't strong, then you see that there isn't too much of a point in staying
That's why it's sisterhood that ultimately makes a difference in whether you'll be active as a senior or whether you'll be active as an alumna once you graduate from college. The other stuff is just superficial and falls away once you're able to go to the bars

In my sorority we don't live in the house until senior year. Because it's all seniors in the house they tend to be VERY involved. Girls don't get tired of their sisters and l decide to drop. If we skip out on swaps, it's because we are all together at another bar and just having too much fun to leave.
Exceptions would be if you have a job or are studying abroad, then you might not be as active.

This is a good point. If we had more sororities and therefore small pledge classes, the overall level of sisterhood in each house would be higher and there probably wouldn't be as many girls dropping out!
