If you don't know the alumni, the Rec they send in on your behalf will allow the sorority to give you a bid, but it won't really help you receive a bid. Meaning sororities can't give you a bid without a rec., this will serve that purpose, but unless you are a standout girl, it's unlikely the rec will hold any kind of water.
There are boxes on the form for the alumni to check. She will check the box that says she doesn't know you personally.
