I am fully aware that brotherhood is more important than any other aspect of Greek life, so please don't hate on me when I ask some of these questions, as I am only curious. I am a freshman at a university in Ohio and I'm considering transferring and rushing next fall, I was wondering which fraternities and which tiers in general would actually consider getting to know me and accepting me into their house. I'm not at all ashamed of being a Yankee, but I would like to say that I would pretty easily fit in here and would love to be in a more "southern" environment. So with that being said my other question kind of goes with the first, but how much does being from the north really matter as long as I don't suck?

sigma nu probably won't even look at you unless you are a big shot from a wealthy well known family (thinking along the lines of politics)
i know a few guys in sigma chi from the north. they are attractive and very nice and from what i know have money as well.
phi delt would be hard to swing but if you make connections and are a cool guy you might have a shot
ka probably won't look at you but don't worry about them you probably wouldn't like it anwyays. almost too southern
kappa sig has a good number of northern guys. advice would be to be chill and meet some actives before rush
ato has some northern members as well, a very different frat from kappa sig as far as what the members are like but they are at the same level. i'd say you have a good chance at one of the two if you are cool, but just depending more on your personality
sae and phi psi would be even easier to get into but again you'd have to meet actives before rush and make sure you fit in with them
sigma pi, beta, phi tau would be easy to get into
delta psi would probably be easy too aside from a possible gpa requirement

I'm a kappa sig and we only had 2 kids in this years pledge class out of 85 from the north and maybe 6 kids overall from the north in the entire fraternity just to set whoever that was straight. But every single fraternity on campus has a handful, and will give you a bid if you fit in, the trick is you have to know someone and get to know the fraternities early on, not just go through formal rush and meet people then. Try and find out who from your state is in which fraternities and use that to your advantage.

You said that Sigma Nu wouldn't take him unless he was thinking along the lines of politics, but Phi Delt has more political pull and prestige at Ole Miss an in the south as a whole.

Two current congressmen and a senatorial candidate are Phi Delts from the Ole Miss chapter. You can't compare the two, Phi Delt has dominated the Political landscape in the south. I'm not even a Phi Delt and I know this.
