19 year old freshman with no greek affiliation

Here is my story. I'm 100% French but both my parents and my self grew up in Dallas. My grand parents were the last ones born in France. I'm taking a year to travel abroad but am coming home to start the University of Mississippi in the fall. While I have no Greek afficaltions in the family, I do have friend's parents who will submit recs. My parents think I'm insane for wanting to rush but I think it's what I really want. I graduated as student body president and have a 3.9 GPA. as much as I love my French heritage I have come to love southern traditions so much as its most of what I've known. My questions are 1. Being a year older be a big deal? 2. Should I get recs for every house? 3. I plan to run for SGA (and win :)!). Money really isn't an object just my friends who went straight into college love being their sororities and I want into this process well informed.

I highly doubt you have anything to worry about. Get recs. Student body government is a big deal. also I highly doubt anyone will look down on you for taking a year off to tour Europe just make sure you bring your pearls ;)

I got my first set in 8th grade :) and Dallas sized for high school graduation. By no means are we "rich" but upper Dallas class. In high school I was the hybrid (mixing southern and very European styles)
