swaps vs. mixers? difference?
by: oOCWhat is the difference between swaps and mixers? Do swaps make drinking allowed? My school does mixers and the rules for drinking are pretty strict but we make it work.

the only difference is the name. at swaps people will buy stuff from the bar, but it depends on what bar the swap is at. mostly we just pregame at the frat, then go to the swap, then go to a late night after. for sororities we take buses there and they're really strict about it, at least in my chapter.

I'm not sure what you are referring to when you say mixer, but a swap is when one (or two) sororities have a party with one (or two) fraternities. They are private parties usually held at bars just for the sorority and fraternity hosting the party. If you are 21, you are allowed to drink. If you are underage, the bars won't serve you. Many of us have fakes, but if we are caught we can go to jail. Most underage drinking will occur at pregames either at the Frats or at someone's house or apartment.
In my sorority we are required to ride a bus both to and from the swap. Busses pick us up in front of our sorority house. To and from the busses are usually handled by fraternity pledges (who don't drink) or "sober sisters" who volunteer to be designated drivers.

Thank you :) the DDDs on my campus aren't even allowed to drink in the same zip code as the official mixer so I was wondering if the name was some way around it or something. I think they're allowed to at the bars though so makes sense.
