which school

I have been accepted at both Ole Miss and Alabama. Which has the better Greek system? I am a double legacy in 2 different houses (mother and grandmother), 3.9 GPA with honors and AP classes.

Grandmothers don't count as legacies and mothers only count if they went to Ole Miss. You need to check how it works at BAMA.

Is this rule only at Ole Miss? Grandmas count as legacies at my school and chapter.

I doubt what you are saying is true. Local chapters do not decide who is considered a legacy. I expect your chapter is like others that a legacy is invited back to 2nd round as a courtesy and then can benreleased.

Grandmothers are always legacies, as are mothers and sisters. Aunts and cousins are not. You must be in a house that is way full of themselves.

Each organization has a different legacy policy. NOT ALL SORORITIES COUNT GRANDDAUGHTERS AS LEGACIES. Some ONLY count sisters and mothers, while some even count great-grandmothers. You need to google it and do your research about your particular organizations.

Also - you are a legacy whether they went to Ole Miss or not, but our chapters probably won't treat you much like a legacy like they would for a chapter legacy since there are simply SO MANY girls coming through who are legacies.

It is exactly the same for Bama.

I've heard of chapters having so many legacies that they only counted mothers and sisters.

That is correct ! Especially in the top houses here at Ole Miss. But the sister and mother had to have gone to Ole Miss !!!

Stupid that sisters even count, I could understand your mother of course because she raised you but sisters are essentially irrelevant.

Legacies count more to some Ole Miss chapters than others. What is considered a legacy differs from sorority to sorority. It is NOT determined on a chapter level, but on the HQ level. Being a legacy is more important to some chapters, so don't count on it for doing more than getting you a courtesy invitation.

Ole miss sororities make their own rules. They try to honor legacies, but unless you are a chapter legacy, they really don't care. Even sororities who say you get a courtesy invite to second rounds don't always follow their own rules.

Chapter legacies are another story. Chapter legacies are treated differently with an entirely different set of rules.

Oh, Oxford is a small town. Tuscaloosa is a small city. Different strokes for different folks. Depends on what you are more comfortable with. Personally, I hate Tuscaloosa, but my Bama friends feel the same way about Oxford.

As far as sororities so, ours are way more laid back. We drink, but never in our houses, and underage drinking is discouraged. So is drunkeness. At Bama, they will get you drunk, in their house, on bid day. Their sororities are 100 times more wild!

Why don't you decide which college to go to based on something more important than Greek Life? Like maybe your future career path...

This!!! I get the feeling that the OP may not actually be very smart if she has to decide between Ole Miss and Bama and is basing her decision on the quality of Greek life, lol

I think the OP is merely gathering information to help her make her decision. I seriously doubt that her mind will be made up based on the kind, helpful words she has been gifted with here. It's actually very smart to hear various outside opinions before making an important decision. Give her some credit!
