2016 rush

by: Pnm

I'm currently a senior at a private Christian school in Memphis. The school I go to isn't really well known (if that makes a difference). I'm really worried about not getting a bid. My parents never attended an SEC school and I'm not a legacy of any chapter. I have a 3.95 unweighted gpa, tons of volunteer hours, a few extracurriculars and I speak three languages. I know a lot of ole miss alumnae that are willing to write rec and support letters for me but I don't know any actives. What are my chances of getting a bid? How many rec letters and letters of support do I need?
Does it make a difference who writes them (a recent or older alumna)? Also, I heard that some sororities pick girls based off how rich their families are....how would they even know how much money your family has?? I come from an average middle class family...Will that hinder my chances of getting a bid from top tier houses?

With quota at 140-160 it is easy to get a sorority bid at ole miss

You sound like you have most of rush under control. If you know ole miss alumni from most chapters, ask them to make a few introductions for you to meet actives in the sororities. Mention to them that you are interested in coming in for a few spring parties. If you can meet actives this way, you will be golden.

you seem to think you are a very special snowflake, but you should realize that there will be MANY girls who are just as pretty, just as smart, and just as involved who have deep connections to Ole Miss. You'd be lucky to get a bid anywhere with your attitude.

I wasn't saying I only wanted to get a bid from a top tier house. I was asking if they would still consider me even if I wasn't rich the reason I asked about top tier sororities is because Ive only heard this being an issue with them...id be happy with a bid from any sorority....why is everyone so easily offended on here? .......could someone please answer my questions :/

Word of advice to the pnm, there are MANY bitter lower tier girls on here who like to throw a fit when a pnm mentions the word top tier, pay them no mind you don't want to be sisters with girls that anyway! There are many factors that will be taken to account during rush, being middle class doesn't eliminate you from getting into a top tier sorority necessarily. We mainly find out more about your hometown story through sisters and alum who live in your area. Don't stress about factors that you can't change and don't let anyone tell you you've got a bad attitude for aiming for the best :)

There are a bunch of bitter, overly sensitive girls and moms and alumni on here. If they are leaving nasty comments it's because their rush was less than perfect and their little feelings got hurt. They have to take all that hurt and disappointment out somewhere.

Top tier doesn't care about finances as much as everybody thinks. As long as you can pay your dues and can afford to hang out, you'll be fine.

Those ole miss alumni connections will get you far. Have them introduce you to actives in the spring time. Come to as many spring parties as you can. That will be key.
