I've had fun reading all of these Alpha Phi posts. It's almost as if a couple of sorority chapters have gathered all their membership to open their laptops and press the "thumbs down" button on anything positive about Alpha Phi. Also, a number of posts purporting to be from Alpha Phi members clearly aren't.
What has everyone all in a lather is that Alpha Phi is allegedly rejected overweight or unattractive girls right off the bat. This isn't a secret about them, in that they've done it on other campuses. And now that they've gotten this reputation, some girls will be eager to get a bid; it's sort of like a teen girl being able to wear Brandy Melville clothes. I don't think this group will ever, ever, ever be top tier, but there's a good chance they won't have to start at the very bottom and claw their way up.
In a perfect world we would judge people on character and perhaps intelligence, not appearance. But from an evolutionary standpoint appearance is the first thing people notice, and if the Alpha Phi chapter is filled with nothing but really attractive girls then guys are going to be eager to do things with them. But without question smart success-oriented guys aren't going to be looking to the Alpha Phi house for a serious relationship.
I don't know whether Alpha Phi's strategy is going to work. I'm inclined to think it will. And I think many of the people who are dissing them on here think it's going to work as well, and see it as a form of cheating.

There are too many already established top tier and middle tier houses already known for having beautiful women! This is nothing new to ole miss!
As far as guys go, a beautiful woman is great to look at and sleep with, but too much maintenance to deal with on a daily basis. Truly beautiful women, the kind men will likely keep around, are much more than a pretty face! Their insides match as well.
This is where aphi is lose all street cred.
Men prefer women they can hold a conversation with!

it is VERY easy to get into ole miss from out of state. all you need is a 2.5 and above a 16? on your ACT and you're automatically guaranteed entry. that's why all of the rich, dumb out of state kids come here, and the smart out of state kids can be here on half to full scholarship, making it much cheaper than their home colleges (at least for me)

Somebody didn't do their homework.
Mississippi residents are only required to have a 2.5 gpa and a 16 on their act.
Non-mississippi residents must have a 2.75 gpa and a 22 on their act.
It is harder for oos students to be admitted. They have to be smarter than mississippi students.

APhi is being picky from the get go. Being selective is how you get to top tier status. Seems as though they will pass up the lower and some mid tier houses quickly. Don't assume they aren't smart. They are top house at selective Cornell. They are a terrific house at selective Texas. And they happen to be gorgeous everywhere. They are doing the right thing at Ole Miss, for sure.

I agree with you that looks will get a woman only so far. But the fact is that the Alpha Phis aren't going to be dumb. You can't be dumb and be of OOS and get into Ole Miss. And they will have some smart girls, although probably not as many as most of the other houses. I never said they would skyrocket to the top, and in fact I said they would never reach the top. I just said they might never spend any time on the bottom.
It hurts when people make comments about your sorority based on the appearance of the members. Based on what I'm reading, no one is ever going to make these comments about Alpha Phi. I think some people are upset that they aren't spending their proper time in hell.
