another new sorority?

by: wondering

word is that within the next 5 years, another new sorority will colonize here. in fact, an article (I believe on hottytoddy.com) interviewed someone from the Greek life office before this rush, who said ideally they would like to add 5 more sororities to balance pledge class sizes. Which one do you think it will be? Does it need to be one with a strong reputation in the South, so it won't stir up the trouble Alpha Phi is causing?

With chapters being around 400 girls they need to add a couple more groups.

i know that ZTA used to be here, then left in 1999. maybe they'll come back like ADPi did? i wonder where new houses will go? i know alpha phi is going next to ADPi, so maybe another house could go across from chi o? i don't know where they would put any houses beyond that though.

without a house there's no way a new sorority would survive here

exactly! now that adpi has a house, they did a great job with rush, and i'm sure after alpha phi's house is built, they'll do a great job. the first two/three years without a house will do nothing for the sorority. pnms won't be drawn to the sororities if they have recruitment in the law school/student union!

If I was a sorority with a great reputation and read the garbage on this site I would never even think about putting a chapter here.

This is exactly why (the multimillion dollar investment required, the tremendous amount of alum support needed, the fact that Panhel wants new groups to lower #s but isn't that supportive when a new group colonizes) some SEC schools have been open for expansion for a while, but no one has sent in packets.
For Ole Miss, ZTA, Gamma Phi, AXO, DZ, AGD are all great options. Particularly AXO, AGD, and ZTA. But I think the GL person was definitely referencing these 5 groups, as they all have chapters at other SEC schools and have done well. And yes, it's extremely imortant to choose groups that have proven they can do well in the SOUTH (so the group doesn't automatically start out "on the wrong foot" like APhi has). All 5 of these groups have chapters at nearby/SEC schools, have the $ to be able to build a beautiful house, have substantial alum support around the area, and generally have strong reputations at schools very, very similar to Ole Miss- which is key.

Alpha Phi not having a "strong presence" in the South has nothing to do with the trouble being stirred.... It's more like they have a strong reputation for being good looking and a little too open about it and everyone else has decided to unleash hatred on them for that reason.
