I am an Alum of Ole Miss. I take great pride in keeping up with my Alma Matter as well as my Sorority. I must say reading this site I must say I am most disappointed in the greek system at Ole Miss. When I was a student there in the 60's it was a prestigious University that took great pride in students, academics, and teaching values. It was the highest honor to be in a sorority at the time and the ladies of the house did not pull some of the shenanigans I read of now days. We were classy, respected, and we carried ourselves with the highest manners. I blame the University of our greek system failing. While Ole Miss is known as being a hard school to rush at, it is because of the ruthlessness of the female students. Back in the day Ole Miss was hard to be accepted too, it took the best students, and therefore we did not have all of the "rif raf" of folks coming to just say they are at a SEC college and knowing it was the only one they could get into. We did not have all of the out of state people tearing down "our state University". Ole Miss Greek has a lot to offer now based on the reputation that my generation built. It is not what it used to be it has been ruined.

If you're saying Ole Miss was hard to be accepted into, next time I would proofread before submitting.

Are you blaming women and out of state students for this? What basis in fact do you have? This is ridiculous!

If you were a student here in the 1960's, that makes you around 70 years old.

Quit trolling the board, grandma. Ole Miss was waaaaaay more backwards bcak in the 60's then it is now, that's for sure.

Please, let me apologize to the OP on your behalf!

Why in the world would you take pride in insulting someone who was just trying to remind us of where we came from and where we should strive to be.

And to the OP, I am from oos and I LOVE this school and everything it stands for. I disagree with you on your view of oos students, but agree with everything else you said.

You were here in the 60s? I don't think it was all sunshine and rainbows then like you think you remember it. Girls have always been ruthless.

Besides, why talk down to the out of state students????? That was rude!!

Speaking of rude, y'all rioted because of James Meredith in the 60s and the US military had to step in along with the state militia! Do not tell me that you did not start any "riff raff" when y'all threatened his safety because of the color of his skin.

Ole Miss is the easiest SEC to get into. ole Miss wants the OOS students or it can't financially compete.

Ole Miss accepts everyone out of state. They are lowering the value of all of our degrees by doing so.

How are we lowering the value of degrees when we have to achieve higher academic standards to be accepted than Mississippi students?

How can our influx of money do anything but help the level of education students receive.

Ole Miss was a "prestigious" university back in your day? How delusional can you possibly get? The only reason a degree from Ole Miss is even marginally valuable now is because of the out of state "riff raff" who are here on academic scholarships. Ole Miss is paying for their education in an attempt to shake their image as a backwards, podunk joke of a university that has literally no respect in any relevant part of the country.

Why do all of these people from all over the country come here if a degree from our university is not respected? Why would anyone want a degree from a "Podunk joke of a university"? You are speaking out of both sides of your mouth.

Because education is expensive and the academically talented ones get scholarships...

I was an instate student and got almost a full ride while at Ole Miss. I am now in law school at UVA, and have never had anyone here say anything but great things about Ole Miss. This is for @go away granny: are you even a student at Ole Miss? If you are, you apparently have no respect or love for this beautiful university and shoud leave ASAP. If you cared anything about Ole Miss you wouldn't be calling it a backward Podunk joke of a university. To the people who gave thumbs up to what she said, think about it. You just agreed with her and her disrespectful description of the school that I love. Maybe you should all leave.

Let me get this right. You are saying that Mississippi students are a bunch of inbred bumpkins and couldn't get into a better school. So you must also be saying that the OSS kids couldn't get a scholarship at a better school so they had settle for Ole Miss. If the OSS are so academically talented as hinted by Ummm above, then surely they had scholarship offers to other schools. Why come to a school that you obviously dislike and have no respect for. Why do you want a degree from a school that Sooooo called Podunk and a joke?

no, the oos kids come to ole miss bc we get so much free money from the school, plus it's easy to separate ourselves academically from the instate MS dumbos. i'm graduating at the top of my class this year, haha.

Obviously, we dumb MS kids are smarter than you think. I am in my second year of law school at UVA, my old roommate is in graduate school at UT Chattanooga beginning OC School, one of my sorority sisters is in her second year of med school at Vandy! Not too shabby for some Mississippi raised chicks? Right?
