snap bids and alpha phi
by: wonderingWhat are snap bids and how do they work? Also, do you have to register for Alpha Phi now, or can you wait to see how formal recruitment works out and then register with them if you need/want to?

Snap bids are allowed for groups that do not make quota. Chapters have a certain amount of time after bid matching is completed to extend bids to women not placed. These snap bids will bring the chapter up to new member quota before new member lists are given to the chapters. Once snap bids have been given, if a chapter remains under new member quota the Continuous Open Bidding (COB) process will begin. If a chapter is under campus total as set by Panhellenic they will COB.
This probably will not happen this year because most groups will take quota.
It is a good idea to register for Alpha Phi recruitment now. Although keep in mind Alpha Phi has a selection process also for their colony members. Not everyone who registers and goes through Alpha Phi recruitment will receive a bid.

If a sorority doesn't make quota (never happens at ole miss) they can, but don't have to, offer bids to girls who have been released from recruitment.
This will happen before bid day and they will open bid cards list like everyone else.
What you will hear, only on this site of misinformed people, is that certain top sororities will be on the lawn of bottom tier houses offering snap bids on bid day. This scenario will be impossible. Once a girl receives a bid from any house, she is ineligible to receive a snap bid.
