going out this weekend

by:

I've heard so many mixed opinions on this topic. Are we ok to go out Friday night to a frat house concert if we follow the same rules we've been following since school started (not drinking to excess or doing anything not classy, especially not talking to older boys) or is that an unspoken major no? Do girls look specifically for PNM's going out Friday to blacklist them?

Your rules are good!

We won't judge you for having a good time! Careful with the alcohol, it will make your face puffy and you want to look your best in Sunday for first impressions. You don't want to look like a hung over hot mess!

I feel like I stepped back in time reading these two posts. Is Ole Miss really that backwards ?

If you went here, you wouldn't need us to answer your question.

But basically, yes, we do like to uphold standard traditions in this largely conservative school.

Do not go out this weekend. DO NOT go to bars and frat parties.

Why not? Why is this weekend any different than the past six weekends? If girls have already made fools of themselves, we already know about it.

Doesn't make any sense why we would discourage it now!

question, no bs. Why, and how, does alcohol make your face puffy? And, I wouldn't recommend going out this weekend. Your need your rest for next week, and you only have one more week to go before you can party all you want.

I would NOT go out this weekend. Have the self discipline to stay in for one weekend because you never know what can happen. Yes you're already on the sororities' radar, but at the same time, you want to keep your reputation clean at this point in time. The best thing to do is not go out. It's just one more week and then you can go out all you want.

I just find it very interesting that college women are asking their "peers" if they should go out or talk to older boys? I'm also perplexed at the responses that the upper classmen are giving; have self discipline to stay in, don't drink and get a puffy face, we won't judge you for having a good time. Really? Just listen to yourselves.
In this case tradition=repression.
Yes, I may not go here but I do understand Southern colloquialism.

Who cares what you think? Southern culture is more traditional than where you're from. We're just trying to give her the best advice possible based on our experiences.

Rush is supposed to be dry and that is a national policy from panhellenic... there are reasons for that. Certainly the upperclassmen already in sororities won't pay attention to that, but if they see PNMs out and about then certain judgments can be made.

And in addition to that, if a person needs to go out and drink and can't stay in for a weekend and find something fun to do then that person might have bigger problems.

I'm not at all surprised at your response, "who cares what you think". Those who are willfully trying to subjugate others usually care less of anyone's opinion but their own.

Not once did I advocate drinking. I quite oppose underage drinking and especially binge drinking. I agree with you that there are many things that college students can do for fun that don't involve drinking. I was quoting what others gave as their "advise".

Again, I don't understand why a college age women would feel the need to ask a peer for permission. That is absurd to me. I'm sure that most are also daddies little princess too. My advise to guys that are dating "daddies little princess" is to run for the hills. When you marry "princess" you marry daddy and 40+ years is a long time to be married to two people and be under the thumb of another.

That is your rebuttal, to call me an unhappy middle aged woman? I spoke in general about girls who refuse to be independent and accept the role as daddies little princess. Are you daddies little princess? If so, I'm sorry I did not mean to hurt your feelings.

Do I appear to be a "middle aged" woman because I am able to put together a comprehensive thought and express it through writing? For your information I am probably just a few years older than you. I'm 26 and work for a national company that focuses on psychological and sociological behaviors of women. I work with talented, intelligent, independent men and women that are both young and "middle aged" A coworker recommended this site as an insight to behaviors of Southern college women. My coworker is a bright young woman who is also a graduate of Ole Miss as well as a member of your greek system. I have to say, she was right. I've learned a lot.

Alcohol will dehydrate you, in turn - causing your body to retain water.

The first place you will retain water, besides your feet will be in your face.

Alcoholics typically have bloated faces.

Laughing at the idea that staying in this weekend will help your chances at rush!

It's a little too little, and a lot too late to change how we view you now!

Your last opportunity to get out there and show actives how special you are and your too scared of doing something stupid? After being on campus for six weeks?

You girls have missed the point! Rush and pre-rush activities are a chance for you to market yourselves as special! Why are you hiding?

I'm laughing more at the notion of a college age "WOMAN" asking the permission of their peer to do ANYTHING.
