actives who were grade risks
by: pnmAre there any actives on here who got bids but were a grade risk? I know top tier cares a lot about GPA, but is everyone dead set on cutting you if you don't have a 3.0? Or do they consider other factors?

if you already spoke to an alumni or active willing to go to bat for you sometimes it does not matter about GPA. Most houses are getting stricter than in the past. My roommate two years ago had below a 3.0 and was able to go DG. I am pretty sure that every other house dropped her but DG because of GPA and that an alumni had pushed her through at DG. It works that way at the other houses too. Not a total loss but you have something worked out in advance.

I had below a 3.0 and pledged a top sorority two years ago. I had a very good act score and lots of activities in high school. My gpa didn't reflect how smart I am or how hard I could've worked, it just reflected that I was lazier in high school than I am now. The two women who wrote my recs had some concerns about my gpa but they knew my family and me very well and went to bat for me in my letters.
Top tier sororities have consistently good chapter gpa's each semester. Therefore, they can afford to take a few grade risks each fall, knowing a few girls can't hurt their overall gpa too much. Sororities with lower gpa's will try not to take grade risks if they can help it.

Two years ago I was in the same position. I had below a 3.0 and was very nervous. I ended up preffing a "top" house (knew lots of girls) and Theta (legacy) but i got cut from my number one choice and theta took me bc I was a legacy. It all works out in the end but yes your GPA will restrict u a lot if it's below a 3.0. A lot of the houses I had a great shot at getting in told me they had to cut me last minute because my GPA.

With adpi and alpha phi joining us on campus, most sororities are faced with having to step up their game! Even top tier are requiring more out of both new members and actives alike.
Top tiers don't just sit back and coast, they work hard to stay on top. Middle tier are working harder than ever before to try to break into the top, and bottom tier are faced with improving themselves or dropping below the new chapters.
I know for a fact that at least half the sororities have national consultants in town for rush this year. Everybody will be bringing their A game this year.
Grade risks are going to be in trouble!

There's a lot more that goes into it than your high school GPA. Yes with such a big group coming through its an easy way to cut, but if you are a legacy or just have a lot of connections (with a great resume otherwise) you might not be cut immediately. It's too late to do anything about it now, be your best self this week and it'll all work out. Good luck!

thank you! my confidence has really been shaken by people saying how many girls go through recruitment this year you basically you don't have a chance if you don't have a 3.0. I realize there is more girls but also, theres bigger pledge classes this year, right? I think i should be defined by more than a hs gpa
