curious about your recruitment dates....

by: Curious

How long has Ole Miss been doing recruitment this far into the school year.? All the schools I know do it before school even starts. Do you feel like it allows your houses to get to know the PNMs better? Any negative opinions or downsides about doing it this late? Seems like it could interfere with classes if you get emotionally devastated during the week..... I could also see some cruel professors scheduling difficult assignments to mess with you!

Good luck to all the PNMs !!!!!!

The reason we do it this far into the semester is so girls can't rush, get cut from the top tier, and then transfer. That's what used to happen. This way works better for us and has allowed our greek system to expand.

I don't know when it changed, but the above poster is correct. Ole miss used to me called u-haul university because if girls got cut from their favorites, they would call daddy and he would show up with a u-haul and move her to a different school to try again. Girls would drop of of school just because they didn't get into a top house.

By moving it, girls have to opportunity to make friends outside of the Greek system. This is true as some of my best friends are in other sororities. We all bonded in the dorms freshmen year.

Yes, rush week is killer! You HAVE to go to class or get cut. There are instructors who purposefully schedule tests or assignments during rush week. You will lose your voice, get sick, stress out, etc! Grades to suffer for pnm's and actives alike. When you are complaining about rush, just think of the actives who have to go to classes too AND set up for each round of rush, AND stay up late into the night for voting.

Ole miss also decided to make rush later because, even if girls do decide to leave school after being cut from their favorite house, the university has collected their tuition money by now so there's no financial loss.
When rush was the week before classes, Ole Miss lost a ton of tuition money because girls could leave before they paid!

Pretty sure the change was made in the mid 1990's or early 2000's. I would much prefer recruitment the week before classes start but... it's not going to happen.
