Yes, you can hang out with them, but I would limit it to Pre-games or private, low key dinners. Do not make it seem like you have already chosen their sorority or you will find yourself cut from several.

If I see a top girls of ours always hanging out and being seen with multiple girls from one sorority, I will let our advisors know that she has interests elsewhere. If I see her out with just one other girls and they seem to be friends, I won't make rash judgement calls.

My freshman year was hard for the first several weeks, I had roommate issues and was far from home. I would still talk to my friends who were actives at the time, but I was careful not to cause tongues to wag.
