second time around

by: Wondering

I rushed last year as a freshman and dropped out after skit round because I didn't like either if the sororities I had left on pref day. My question is which sororities will give me a bid my second time around.

Some girls are telling me that there is a "once dropped, always dropped" policy. Does this mean that if a sorority dropped me last year that they won't even give me a chance this year?

Which sororities have this policy?

You should have chosen one of the houses you had left then instead of believing that you're too good for them. Chances are those houses and above will not want you. Look for alpha phi which isn't necessarily a bad thing

you could just say you dropped for personal reasons but you are ready for it this year.

Are you friends with anyone in sororities?

No one is going to tell you which houses have the "once cut, always cut" policy. None of your business. You screwed up badly by dropping out of rush last year, but that was certainly your choice. The 2 chapters that you had left will remember that you chose not to be Greek at all, rather than give them the chance that they were offering to you. You might have blown your chance at sorority life.

You are damned lucky that Alpha Phi is coming to campus this year. If you have great grades, great campus involvement and a glowing recommendation, you can try rushing them. You will not receive a bid from the other houses on campus.

And that last comment isn't being mean either. When you drop out before skit, it's just taken as you being iffy about sorority life and that's more understandable (or you could be that girl who simply lost her #1 house and gave up all together) but to drop out after skit, it's usually very obvious as to why and those two houses probably will remember you and most likely will drop you. As for the others, just go for it and see it can't hurt you to at least try. And the thing is, don't lie about why you dropped. You can say it was for personal reasons but then they'll ask what exactly or why you chose to wait until after another girl lost an opportunity because after skit, things are pretty much lined up and there's no switching or last minute changes once a girl is dropped so be ready for that because they will ask you. And not to say that there aren't special circumstances that can make you change your mind about rushing or at least at the time, but you aren't in that category so best of luck

What if I have friends, lots of friends, in top tier sororities who are telling me I should rush again? They all want me and have told me that they will vote yes for me. Will this help?

Oh yeah, the reason for the bad rush last year was because of grades. I've worked really hard and have good grades now. Will that make a difference?
