very specific questions
by: RebelLove
So I've done my research on recruitment already this post isn't really for advice but just some light discussion on rush topics. I realize some questions/answers might lead to some hurtful gossip...I just want this to be clean, lighthearted, honest, and respectful. Answer whichever question you like and THANK YOU❤️
1.) how involved are the alums in the selection process at some of the sororities?
2.) what's the most outrageous/ridiculous thing you've heard of a pnm doing during rush?
3.) non-members (if you'd even be on this website): what's does it feel like to be watching rush going on on campus?
4.) what's the most insulting thing you've seen/heard a pnm do/say during rush?
5.) what's the percentage of importantance your rec letter holds.....or of equal curiosity, your stance as a legacy?
6.) what's the first thing you notice about a pnm when you meet them for the first time?
7.) how many African Americans do you know are in Panhellenic (traditionally white) sororities rather than Pan-Hellenic (traditionally black) sororities? I ask because it's not like you're required to be a part of either if you decide rush and it's starting to become and issue worth discussing when talking about Greek life in the south \n\n\n\n\nThanks guys much love❤️❤️❤️

1. It varies with each sorority. Some sororities only have alumni overlooking them, some have alumni dedicated in the voting process. We only know about the house we're in.
2. One girl had her mom stay in the hotel on campus with her aunt (who was a hairstylist) and she did her hair and make up there in between rounds. Needless to say, she did not look natural and she didn't look the same after Bid Day. I understand fix ups, but it was weird that she went through so much trouble.
3. You won't have GDI's on here. They don't care about us.
4. One rushee who I talked to flat out told me that she hated my house on the first day cause we weren't top tier. She said that I shouldn't bother with her because she was top tier material. After that day, told my friends in class about her and she was dropped by almost every house the next round. It was the first day! If you don't like the house, stay polite.
5. It's different at every house, recs and legacies. We do like recs that are personal and most houses keep chapter legacies for a while. But again, we only know about our own house.
6. Her energy. If she seems nervous, I find that adorable because we've all been there. If she's excited, I will immediately love her. If she's not excited/interested, I will want to drop her for HER sake. Why would I keep someone around when she doesn't want to be in my house? She might love an other house and thats ok! :)
7. I know a few African Americans in sororities.

1. The alumni are involved in every house to some extent, but they are very involved in the top 4 houses (xo, ddd, kd, dg). You cannot get a bid to one of these houses without alumni approval.
2. I've had a pnm cry during round 1 because she loved my house so much. It's one thing to get emotional on pref night, but round 1? Come on.
4. Like the poster before me, I cannot stand when pnms appear bored. You'll be exhausted and your throat will hurt like crazy, but I am just as exhausted as you are. And if you act bored or uninterested, I will see to it that you are cut as soon as you leave the house.
5. Again, rec letters are important. We can't give you a bid unless you have one. Letters from ole miss alumni hold a lot more weight. Chapter legacy status is almost an automatic bid. Regular legacy status will get you name recognition but that's about it.
6. I definitely look for a smile and that sense of excitement. When I pick you up outside of my house, I want to hear the excitement in your voice when you say "so nice to meet you, I am so happy to be here" or something along those lines. I want to see that you are genuinely interested in getting to know me in that 5 minutes we get to talk. I also love talking with an honest an pnm. You can tell me your throat is killing you and that you have a huge bio test tomorrow, but don't come off as whiney and complaining.
7. There are a few minority girls in my sorority.
