Some initiate after 6 weeks, other don't initiate until next semester until after grades come in.

Would you mind saying which hold initiation after 6 weeks and which hold initiation 2nd semester? I'm just curious. Thanks!

I know adpi, aopi, and chi omega have initiation in the fall. Delta gamma and kappa have it after Christmas. That's all I know.

By: Why does it matter?

Chi o waits until the last week of January, not in the fall. They are big about not initiating grade risks.

I think KD and DDD have it in the fall after about 6-8 weeks.

Grades are important. For most groups you have to keep your grades up to get initiated and to stay in good standing as a member. It is not just about recruitment. good luck to all pnms.

What happens if you don't make your grades before initiation? Do they kick you out? Do you have to wait a full year before getting initiated? Can you still participate in activities?

If you don't make grades you're still considered a new member and have to wait until next fall to be initiated (in most sororities). You would be on academic probation and have to attend study meetings. You cannot attend social events with the sorority. (Swaps, and sorority formal)

You haven't even received a bid. Why are you so worried about this? The cut off grade to get initiated isn't even high. Usually 2.5-2.75

Somebody told me that chi o didn't initiate below a 3.0. That seems kind of hard for a first semester freshman! How many girls go uninitiated?

If I had s choice, I might chose a sorority that initiated first semester just so I wouldn't face the humiliation of not being initiated with my pledge class!

We are all scared about grades and how well we will do at ole miss! With rushing and pledging and swaps and theta encore practice and philanthropy activities, trust me, it's is on all our minds.

That's honestly the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Do not pick a sorority based on when they initiate. You will be a member of this sorority for 4 years and technically the rest of your life. There are dozens of girls who don't get initiated with their pledge class each year and it isn't huge humiliating deal. It's embarrassing at first but your friends will all understand and no one will judge you. The first semester of college is hard and everyone knows that.

There are dozens of girls who don't get initiated because of grades?????

I'm not saying choose a sorority based on when you are initiated, but wow! What fun is it being in a sorority if you can't attend social events?

If given the choice between Chi O / DG who initiate in the spring and DDD / KD who initiate in the Fall, It could very well affect my decision!

Honestly, it would be a worry! Especially since I've heard that by rush, every girl is stressed out, having to take tests and rush at the same time.

I hope I get a bid to a sorority that initiates in the Fall! Why in the world would sororities chose to embarrass their new members like that? Grades are important yes, but so is enjoying your college experience!

Poor pnm can't handle getting a B average? I hope you're pretty because you sure are stupid. There are actives working their butts off to put on a good rush. Actives who are on scholarship and who have incredibly hard majors. Maybe KD and DDD are a good fit for you ;)

Ya know..... It's not just the sororities who initiate in the spring who have actives working their buts off for rush. No need to insult kd and ddd. .

Wasn't saying only XO and DG work their butts off. Actives in every sorority do. I just hate seeing pnms complain that their first semester is tough.

Chi O is the only NPC sorority that requires a certain GPA to be initiated. On other campuses with earlier recruitment all sororities (except Chi O) typically initiate within 6 - 8 weeks of recruitment.

FYI, the length of pledging, and therefore when new members are initiated, is established by the headquarters of every NPC sorority. Local chapters do not make that decision. Chi Omega is the only organization that still initiates in the Spring, after fall grades are released. All sororities used to have spring initiation... I wish we still did it that way. If you can't pull a B average, then you are pulling down the entire chapter's average.

Delta gamma also requires a certain gpa to be initiated. Go figure. They initiate after first semester grades come out.

A lot of sororities require a certain GPA to be initiated, so some wait until the first week back from school second semester for fall grades to come in or they just use the PNMs high school grades and initiates them in the Fall.

Fall initiation happens around November
