rush packets

by:

I'm currently getting my letters of rec and such in order for rush week! What is the difference between a letter of rec and support?

I was told to get 2 letters of rec per house. Then I heard to get 1 letter of rec and 1 letter of support. I'm really confused as for what to do :/

Support letters aren't really used in most houses, including mine. Just get as many rec letters as you can.

I'm in a top tier house and they only want 2 Recs and as many support letters from people who really know you. XO ,this year has asked alumni advisors to only send in 2 Recs and no more than 6 support letters. I hope this helps. Every sorority is different.

So if you get 2 rec letters for a house they basically have your resume and pictures and everything twice? Or do you just put your resume with one of the recs? This has been confusing me because my mom (who was in a competitive sorority at Ole Miss) says that you only need one rec (so you're not giving a resume and stuff twice) and then a few letters of support for each house but I've seen it said a couple of places online to get 2 rec letters along with letters of support if you can. Can someone clear this up for me??

so can a support letter be written by anyone, even if they aren't an alumni of a particular sorority or weren't in one at all?

support letters have to be written by someone in that particular sorority.

for example, if your mom's best friend is a kappa delta (at any school, she didn't have to be a kd at ole miss), she could write you a support letter for kappa delta and only kappa delta (same rule applies for recs). and if your best friend's mom was a pi phi then she can write you a support letter for pi phi. and if your favorite teacher was a kappa, she can write you a support letter for kappa, and so on for the rest of the sororities on campus.

someone who isn't greek can't send a support letter (or rec).

and someone that is a tridelt can't send a support letter for you to dg or any of the other chapters- she can only send one to tridelt. same goes for all the other chapters.

so get multiple women (if possible) from each sorority on campus that know you to write you a letter!

You only need one Rec letter. These are form letters and sort of impersonal but each house requires one to give out a bid. Because they are forms, by getting more than one, the sorority will have the same thing multiple times. Don't do this.

Get as many support letters as you can.

Recs should be from chapter alumni if possible. Support letters can be written by alumni, no matter the chapter.

Also, I rushed two years ago when we preffed three houses. I preffed all three top tier sororities.

I had one rec for each and multiple (sometimes six or more) support letters for each house.

Ok that's what I thought! It doesn't make sense to me to send all that info in twice to the same sorority. So why are other people here and on other sites saying to get 2 recs if you can??

Because they probably don't understand the difference.

Going through rush we were told by our local Panhellenic that for ole miss we needed one rec and at least 3 or 4 letters of support for each sorority. We were also told that a rec from a chapter alumni was important as those hold so much more water.

After seeing how rush works, I can honestly say that chapter alumni have way more pull than any active member! If a chapter alumni tells us to rush their favorite girls, then that is exactly what we do! We call them and message them and invite them up to hang out with us. We show them love. Way more love than a girl we aren't being told to rush or don't know personally.

One rec is all you need! I promise! The Rec forms are impersonal and basically just regurgitate what your résumé already states. Letters of support are letters that ladies who personally know you go on and on about how wonderful you are.

so one letter of rec and at least 3 letters of support for each house!

letters of rec- try to shoot from an ole miss alumni. This is more informal
letters of support- can be from any sorority alumni, doesn't have to be from ole miss. This one is more formal.

Recs are formal but impersonal. They are basically a form the alumni fill out and submit. Support letters are less formal, but are very personal.

Recs state facts and support letters gush and gush about how wonderful you are.

The alumni know this and they know what to do. Or at least they should.

If you have an older lady, like your grandmother or one of her friends writing your rec, you might want to let her know that for most sororities, their rec forms can be found on their national webpage. Support letters are written on their personal stationary.

should the ladies writing the support letters send them directly to the sorority OR should she send it to the rec writer and then the rec writer sends her rec form to the sorority along with the support letter?????

The support letters should be sent to the Rec writer. This way they can be included in your rush packet

What if the recommendation form is completed online? Then what do you do involving the rush packets? Also, what needs to be included in a rush packet????

By: helllppppp

Send your rush packet to your rec writer anyway. She will still be the one collecting support letters, etc.

Pnm's don't really need to worry about each specific sororities requirements. The rec writer should know what to do.

When should we give packets to the alumna that is writing the rec.? Registration isn't until June 1st for 2016. What if you do not know anyone who can do support letters, but you have a rec.?

By: ???
by: Hurry

Registration may not be until this summer, but sororities have already started their rush workshops and have already started identifying girls they would like to extend bids to. The earlier we get your packets the better we can get to know you before rush starts. After we break for the summer, it's too late for many sororities.

The longer you wait to send your packers the less time we have to get to know you. During rush rounds we only have minutes to get to know you. If your packets are in prior to summer, we have all summer to stalk you and get to know you better.

Who do we send them to now? The websites do not have the current recruitment chairs for most of the sororities. Just write attn: recruitment chair?

Thank goodness my Big 10 school (which has a very strong Greek system) doesn't make woman do this sort of BS!

By: Big 10
by: Lol

Too bad your big 10 school's Greek system will NEVER be as strong or as wonderful as ole miss and other schools in the sec!

Don't judge a Greek system you have no idea about! Even our bottom houses are better than your tip top houses!

Should the resume' be printed on personsalized paper or just plain paper of good card stock? I've seen some online that have the pnm's initial or initials on them. And should everything fit onto one page ? Leaving a blank space in the corner for the pic ?

I've seen resumes printed on cute paper, I've seen them printed on expensive paper and I've seen them on plain paper.

It honestly comes down to connections. Girls with strong connections don't have to put in the effort girls without connections need to.

Without strong connections, it's all about how you market yourself.
