@Seriously - What it means is that Panhellenic is going to have to start walking the walk and not talking the talk of Panhellenic Love. Infraction during recruitment will have to be punished. Bad form in manners will have to be rewarded with some sort of shaming. The handwringing and vicious attacks you see on here show the fear of established chapters that something might happen to the tier structure. There is only one constant in the world and that is CHANGE, and it's the thing people fear the most.

I totally agree that the culture needs to change.
Folks, finding a group to colonize that has local appeal AND has never lost a chapter in MS is simply impossible.
The choices are as follows:
1) Invite a group to colonize now and others to colonize in the future. Period. I agree that whatever group(s) would need to be strong enough nationally to sink lots of money into colonization efforts and building a competitive house.
2) Do nothing and let numbers spiral ever more out of control.
3) Force numbers down by artificially capping/lowering quota and total, thereby making sorority life super-exclusive and encouraging fewer girls to rush. (Of course, this would also result in tons of girls transferring out, or choosing not to attend Ole Miss in the first place.)
In any case, SOMETHING needs to be done.

right "would need to be strong enough nationally to sink lots of money into colonization efforts and building a competitive house." You are so right. Check with the girls at Tennessee. My friend is a DZ there, and I believe nationals fully funded their house on their new sorority row. You might want to check with other chapters there to see who got good funding from nationals. That can be extremely important when trying to establish a new chapter. I would definitely go with a strong national chapter over local favoritism if you want funding.

DG has just sunk millions into reestablishing a chapter at U of A that closed like 30 yrs ago. But, the house they're building is right alongside new houses for 2 other groups on campus who are VERY strong...so in a couple of years, it won't be like just one group is "new" becasue there will be several "new" houses.
The "old row" - "new row" thing at Ole Miss has got to change if a new group is going to flourish. A paradigm shift is in order...and if a national group can come in a sink MILLIONS into a FINE house, then that would force other groups to "up the ante" and maybe change the culture at UM.
