Alpha Delta Pi, 1961-1996
Alpha Xi Delta, 1969-1976
Delta Zeta, 1928-1953
Zeta Tau Alpha, 1939-1999
A closed chapter that recolonized would always have the stigma of having failed before. That's not a big deal at other schools, but this is Ole Miss we're talking about. And even if the chapter closed decades ago, remember that there are alumnae with long memories.

Hi, I'm from Kansas City, and Ole Miss has been my dream for years. I've been accepted for next year, and I am planning on rushing. I'm a Delta Gamma legacy and I'm a Phi Mu legacy, and I can get lots of rec letters. I'd just like to know what my chances are for getting into a sorority at U of M? (especially since i'm out of state)

As a legacy of 2 amazing chapters out of the 9 incredible chapters at UM, your chances are almost guaranteed, assuming you have decent grades and a good personality. Being out of state has nothing to do with it; the out of state students nearly outnumber the in-state students (maybe they do- someone else can supply these numbers). Do not fret about Rush-- you are going to have an amazing time! Hope this helps :)

Really? Casey should know that being "out of state" would all but disqualify you from being considered by any sorority with a triangle in its name, secretly and unofficially of course. However, DG typically REALLY goes for legacies. However, all the sororities, have been criticized for not automatically taking legacies. They run into this situation because Ole Miss really needs one of two things: 1) another sorority; or 2) for the sororities to seriouisly jack up their dues, then we'll see who the real players are. Sorority membership is a privilege. Now the folks who say there would be no respect for a "re-colonized" sorority are probably the same ones who have no respect for any sorority other than their own. Ole Miss REALLY needs to add another sorority, but the locals are just to close-knit and sometimes downright nasty, bless their hearts!

^ Not saying it's right -- that's just the way it is.
I think for an additional chapter to work it would almost have to be a sorority without any history in Mississippi at all, just to be able to start with a clean slate. (Ex: In some people's eyes, AXO and Alpha Gam wouldn't work because they failed at State, even though they have amazingly strong chapters at Bama and Auburn.) I think Alpha Phi would be a good choice -- they're doing great at Bama and Kentucky, and the national org has a lot of money to sink into a colonization.

Please don't stress about rush- if you have good grades, good personality, and don't do something stupid @ Ole Miss b/4 rush. You will be fine. Sure you may be cut by some of the sororities that take mainly in-state girls, but there are plenty of other houses here that would love to have you! Keep an open mind-all these houses are amazing!
