sorority comments

#261by: Hmm. Debateable.
Phi Mu actually is a very southern sorority and is pretty popular amongst the southern girls that rush. Kappa Delta is as well, though stronger nationally than Phi Mu. True, though, in that Kappa will never be as popular with the "true Mississippi and Southern girls." Kappa gets a lot of the out of state girls. It's a very strong sorority nationally, so surely a great Sisterhood.

Kappa is a for sure no. Phi Mu is only a Southern sorority, but I would still agree that they are not really a Mississippi sorority. Very popular in Alabama, good here in Mississippi, but I'd still say "traditional MS" sororities are more popular state wide. I'd say that XO, DG, and KD are more popular than Phi Mu at MSU, and that XO, DDD, KD, and DG are still more popular here. Phi Mu is still a wonderful sorority at both.

It's actually more of an "idea" or opinion and I want to say that none of our 9 amazing chapters here at Ole Miss does it. However, to answer your question, dirty rushing can consist of many things... Promising PNM's bids (which usually ends in disappointment and hurt), actives calling PNMs after rounds, and just other deceitful things... But like I said, I don't know of any real proof that any sorority at Ole Miss does it. However, there will always be rumors.

Last year, around 1000 girls started out but by the time actual Rush week arrived, I believed it had dwindled down to right at 937... Seriously, I believe that was the exact number, as was released in the DM. With our Freshman classes getting larger and larger every year, you can definitely expect a similar turnout, with about the same or more girls going through recruitment this year. And to answer what may be your next question, no, this bigger class will not harm your chances of getting into a sorority; as the number of girls going through recruitment grows, the number of bids a house can give grows as well. For example, in 2009, a house may have set their quota for new pledges at 75. In 2010, 90. This year, 100 or more...

So sorry to tell you that yes Dirty Rushing does actually go on!!Especially from a historically MS sorority just last year.! They will get your number then text you how much they love you after all the parties then even all the way up to bid day make you think you are a shoe-in!! This can absolutely lead to heartbreak because they are telling everyone the same thing!!! Just be very cautious of groups that will do this because it is shady and tells their true character!! Have a great rush and try to get to know the girls not the stereotypes!!!

Thnaks again for all your advice!! I have no ties to any one sorority so I am definately going in with an open mind. One thing about this site no one sorority has all good or all bad written about them so I feel they must be all good or as I read on here- there is no bad sorority at Ole Miss. Just can't wait!!!

That is a wonderful thing to do. You will love the recruitment process, as well as the house you are at on Bid Day. All will go wonderfully for you! Best of luck!! (And you are correct-- despite the comments on this silly site, there is absolutely NO bad sorority at Ole Miss. They are all equally amazing).
