transferring

by: Would like to know

After going through a few related posts, it seems like transfers can either have a hit or miss experience. In general, do girls who transfer from another school who were in a sorority feel welcomed by ole miss's chapters? Would love to hear from those with personal experience or who honestly can speak for a friend or family member. Obviously chapters vary & I understand this, just looking for some general advice.

Had a friend of mine transfer from a smaller school up north. She was a chi omega. She loved ole miss, but always felt like an outcast in her sorority. Eventually went inactive.

Keep in mind that ole miss has one of the most competitive rushes in the country. Pretty much all the girls have proven themselves in one way or another. The top houses will be the hardest to affiliate into because those girls were the top of their classes. Over the years we have seen, over and over again, girls pledge top houses at smaller less competitive schools with the sole intention of transferring in and grabbing their rightful spot in their sorority, whether or not there is a good fit. We know girls do this and it is frowned upon.

The only girls who are successful in transferring usually already have friends in the house who introduce them around and show them the ropes. Going in without knowing someone will be social suicide.

Good luck.

Even if my school l wasn't nearly as competitive, but I have a really good GPA, am friendly & not socially awkward, generally pretty (not saying I'm Blake Lively), & know a few girls (although not super well), do you think those things count for anything? I totally can understand being careful about the girls who cheat the system, but I was just hoping the girls would be willing to give me a chance. I read posts on here and I know things aren't necessarily true, and I know plenty of girls who don't act like a you know what just because they are in a "top" sorority, so I was hoping there were girls who had a good experience, even if it wasn't the easiest one.

Why do you feel it is necessary to turn every post into a "top houses" are so much better than everyone else propaganda piece. You even use it as an excuse to be snobby, cliquey, unfriendly and act like that makes it okay in this one.
Goodness, I feel sorry for girls like @Well.

To the above poster "why". I've read and re-read the post by "well". There is no mention of any top house, no propaganda, no putting down houses. She was just stating the obvious.

I am in a top house. We look at all transfers the same as any PNM. If the transfer fits with us and we like her, we vote on her just like any PNM. With good grades, a good reputation, positive recommendations etc, we have no problem accepting them. We will check up on her, ask around, call her old chapters president etc, just like any PNM, but if we like her and vote her in, we love on her just like any other new member.

If voted in, you will have the same positive experiences as the rest of us and we would love to have you

With good grades, looks, personality, reputation, etc, any house (top or bottom) will welcome you

Thanks so much that makes me feel a lot better, this website tends to be lacking in the positive department and it's nice to know you aren't automatically a no
