Everyone going through should keep an open mind and not get caught up in the tiers and streyotypes. At the end of the day it's where you fit in. Or else you'll find yourself out of place. Nobody cares

If you just show up at rush you are going to be stuck going Chi Psi or theta depending on your gender. Ideally PNMs would have already started social networking a good bit by now.

Do the big fraternities send out invites or rush packetsto people they are interested in?

I am on the list for PDT but I haven't gotten anything in the mail amd wasn't sure if they just send nothing, or should expect stuff later in the summer.

I think you might be confused about fraternity rush. While many guys already have friends in the fraternities, and many attended spring parties, no invites have gone out yet, at least to my knowledge. The rules are different for the boys than for the girls, but the basic concept is the same. Nobody knows who will be getting bids "officially" until bid day. This probably isn't the best place to be asking for advice. Call the IFC office on campus and they can give you better information. Every fraternity does things a little different.

So you mention the names of a fraternity and a sorority in terms of getting "stuck" with them? How shallow and pathetic is that?

Some other guy said they sent out packets. I yhink they were just trolling though.

Should I expect to just hear about invites to rush parties in like the end of the summer?

There will be an informational meeting the week of move in where everything will be discusses. Invites will be handed out during rush. You will attend all 17 houses in the first round and will receive invites back to the houses that liked you. During the week you will narrow down your choices.

Individual fraternities do not send out packets or invites.

Do yourself a favor and go on line. Google ole miss Greek life. Register on line for recruitment. Several guys went without bids last year because they didn't know they needed to register on line for rush. The website will walk you through what you need to do. I don't think guys need rec letters, but I do know that lots of guys get them anyway as a means of introduction. The Greek life office will know more. Contact them!
