what do i do

by:

I am super excited about rushing in the fall, but I'm getting worries that some of the sororities have already made their list and im not there. I'm not a legacy to a sorority at all, but I am from ms and I'm pretty much an hour away from ole miss. What are my chances of getting in a really good sorority with good rec letters, good grades, and a very involved resume even though I don't have very many connections with active members?

I'm in the same situation you are! Connections and meeting people are the keys to getting bids to the houses you want. The more involved in activities you are when classes start, the more people you'll meet and the better chance you'll have!

...MS PNMs have a slight edge IF they know girls in the sororities... and/or have a strong recs from very "active" local Alums... Ole Miss sororities always want girls from Mississippi... that said, not all MS PNMs are "top-rushes"... you DO need to make an effort this summer to meet girls that are in Ole Miss sororities...it's not hard...ask your local rec Alumni to make some introductions... and the same advice which everyone gives to OOS PNMs applies to in-state rushes -- don't come with a pre-determined list based on gossip in HS or on this site... all sororities at Ole Miss have strong sisterhoods...and that's the best advice anyone will give you.

I know a few girls from just about every sorority, I just am not overly close with them and I don't know THAT many. I'm getting worried that I won't get in a top or middle tier house and being this close to the university puts pressure on me. I didn't attend any spring parties because of some advice from an alum saying that it may come back to hurt me if I did attend and was already seen with girls from a certain sorority. I fear now that it was a huge mistake not going.

It probably was a mistake not going. However, it would have been a bigger mistake if you had gone and made a fool of yourself.

This is also true for those of you attending jump start this summer. Make a fool of yourself and it bottom tier for you!

So what can I do from here on out to get to know more people?

Pretty sure this was asked and answered in a different post.

Also pretty sure someone also posted that this was not an advice column. You are going to college, you are moving away from mommy and daddy. Go out there and make your own choices. There is not one single activity where somebody will tell you that "all the top girls hang out here" or "all the wired girls hang out there".

Go forth into the world and create your own fun doing the things that you love.
