rushing fraternities and not being from the south

by:

Would being from the Midwest hinder chances of getting a bid at many houses? I figure this would at KA, but what about other mid to top chapters like Sigma Chi, Sigma Nu, ATO, Kappa Sig, Phi Psi, etc.?

That might affect you at Phi Delt, Sigma Chi or Sigma Nu, but for most of the chapters- no. The biggest thing you can do to help yourself "pre-rush" is to literally go into all of the houses before formal rush. I know that might sound weird- but its really not. Fraternities want you to stop by the house on the weekend and introduce yourself so they know who you are when you go through formal recruitment. That also helps you get a feel for which house you want. Go to all of them, and most importantly, go into it with an open mind.

Thanks for the response. Does anyone else have two cents in this topic? Looking for as many honest opinions as possible. How many/which fraternities have a decent amount of/would be willing to bid guys not from the South?

it doesn't matter as much as where your'e from, but it's all about who you know. If you know people in a certain house, that will go a long way. If you don't know anyone at all, not being from the south can hurt you. But if you're a cool guy you will still be looked at by the middle tier fraternities.
