How the algorithm works

by:

If you didn’t get the house you pref’d it means they did not have you very high on their list.

That’s what it means when the numbers didn’t work for you-you we’re not ranked 1-200 on the house you pref’d list. They weren’t expecting to see you on bid day and the way you felt about seeing your second choice is exactly how your first choice would have felt about seeing you.

If a house broke recruitment rules (dirty rush, bid promising) they were willing to lose you-if they had been caught they would have gotten a fine and been told they had to cut you which was fine by them the whole time. It was about padding their return numbers not about wanting you as a member.

Fact: If you made it to pref you were wanted. Every single girl was wanted.

Also fact: There were no messups with the order, nobody screwed up your list, nobody made a mistake in panhel, nobody took list b before list a and it was too late to fix it. Those are rush urban legends.

Yes the list has to be ordered. Somebody will be top of the list, somebody will be bottom of the list. That is based on scoring. Very few people actually see the order of that list.

There are girls who don't get their first choice and girls in that first choice house are upset, they rushed those girls they preffed those girls, they gave those girls their highest scores. There are girls who get that first choice house and girls in the first choice house aren't thrilled because perhaps they didn't love them, maybe barely met them or wished somebody else had gotten the bid who was lower on the list.

But if you were at pref, no matter where you were on that list, there would have been people thrilled to have you there.

Best way to describe it is that the house wanted you but couldn't have you.

If they DIDN'T want you, you would have been cut. Simple as that.

The poster above makes it sound like the sisterhood is sitting there going through the list order cheering the first 200 and breathing a sigh of relief for girls 201-400. That is not true.

And also consider this. Your second house really loved you, they saw something in you that brought you high on their list, they believe there is a sisterhood there. Give that a chance. It is so easy to get caught up in rush and think you know exactly what makes sense in those moments. Then the real sorority experience happens and you learn so much more.

Congrats to everybody on a great rush.

Tomorrow we all go back to being losers, easy, rejects, leftovers, fillers, hicks, not what we once were and falling fast. Cheers!
